Cautiously optimistic, but it may be too late to fix the lore after the BfA/Shadowlands debacle.

It’s gonna take a good deal of that Metzen enthusiasm to right this ship, not sure he has that in the tank.

Hope for the best, brace for the worst.

I just hope we get some more consistency going forward. It’s what most people seem to want anyway

I think it may take some time to see the effects of his return to Warcraft but I am a bit optimistic.

I just want the cosmological chart to go away so discussing Warcraft sounds less like I’m talking about a pokemon battle.

If that sort of thing had to exist, it should have been used internally as a writers resource and never left the wall of the writers room.

I agree. I liked it better when the cosmology was vague and all we knew for sure was that the void was the big bad guy

Seems like a good thing. He is likely the best choice outside of some totally surprising third party.

He was there for a lot of the formative years, so he has experience in the World building. Luckily a lot of the tainted old guard is gone. They had their time without him, and their infighting and excess IRL wrecked it. He seemed to stay above the scandals.

Danuser and Golden were in over their heads already. They needed direction.

It also means Blizzard is investing in the narrative. Which might mean they are expecting many more years, or maybe they want him to help end it and transition to WoW 2.

Considering in a future patch they’re planning on expanding the portal rooms in both cities to support an additional 10 new portals and won’t need a update until WoWs 40th anniversary, it seems they’re in it for the long haul

Just throwing this out there though, keep in mind that he’s only the ‘executive creative director’ this means there’s someone above him still who is the ultimate decision maker and who has veto power over any decision Chris makes.

It’s a great move, but please don’t think that him being in this role automatically means we’ll see a return of Chris Metzen’s vision for WoW. He’ll have a great deal of creative input, and I can’t imagine that there’s going to be much pushback against his ideas, but he can still be overruled.

Hey you! You’re finally awake! Battle of Daza what? Shadow who? You were trying to cross the border into Argus!

Jokes aside, wiping out years of content would leave a bad taste in most people’s mouths. You’d always wonder if they would reset again. Plus how would they fit in Dracthyr?

Nice. Now all that’s left to do is fire Ion, Golden and Danuser.

So from what I understand of the position, basically Danuser takes the ideas his team has and presents them to Metzen, and then Metzen works with the story team to adjust their ideas to be adequately “warcrafty”. Danuser still more or less has control of the narrative as the Narrative Director, Metzen’s control is for the overall creative vision.

It be nice if we could get a mix of Metzen’s edgy depicted-on-a-metal-album-cover type storytelling for the main A plot, and then the softer stuff that deepens the world they honed in Dragonflight as our side plots.

The story team has no power over the game at all. Devs have regularly mentioned that they never have to go to them at all and can choose to.

Just the President of Blizz. Hopefully Chris got some huge concessions from Mike when it came to creative control.

I never liked this about the original cosmology. It’s ridiculous the Void is universally evil and every other one universally benevolent. I still want to see Void entities that aren’t all tentacles and madness.

Not sure I would call Fel benevolent
