I think the big thing is that it will increase morale which is always a good thing.
So much of the game and the fanbase has changed tho… so I’m still not entirely sure how this will affect the broader direction of the game. But I am hoping this means that the usual cast of famous characters (Thrall, Jaina, Sylvanas etc.) don’t just become villain of the week for a contrived plot device.
I’m also hoping for a world revamp. but still keeping an open mind in case the game heads in a different direction.

Yes, if the game is still making money and the company is still in business then it could be plenty worse. No company keeps a product or service around long if it’s not making a profit.
This is absolutely the best news they could have announced 
Excellent for the Warcraft community. It’ll be amazing to have him at BlizzCon this year.

I don’t think it will improve WoW that much.
People kind of overstate Metzen’s importance to saving WoW’s identity. We all hate Danuser’s hack writing, and Metzen is by all means better than he is. But Metzen is not without his flaws also. Metzen has also been on the end of some truly, stunningly bad lore developments in the past. But he was also involved in WoW’s greatest expansion: MOP. So, it’s a wash.
