I still haven’t chosen my covenant because I’m so concerned about making the right decision. I know that night fae is the best performance wise for what I’m interested in, but people also say that there isn’t much difference and that they are still being tuned and to choose whichever one I like aesthetically more. Am I just overthinking or what should I do?
Which do you care about more, cosmetics or optimization? Do you care more about how your character looks? or the DPS meter?
The abilities were nerfed substantially prior to release so choosing the wrong ability isn’t that big of a deal anymore and you can always change. (Not sure if this is helpful )
Also something to keep in mind, is to blame Blizzard for having to make you choose in the first place. #PullTheRipcord
Tuning will continue to happen to the covenants, probably throughout the expansion. Also, unless you’re pushing world first raids, super high M+ keys, or top rated PvP, your covenant choice will not be make or break. I know there are idiots that won’t invite you to their random whatever for having the “wrong” covenant, but those people don’t matter.
I’m a collector so I like all cosmetics and mounts and such. But in saying that, I do also really want the mount from doing keystone master each season, so that’s why I’m torn. I also don’t like the idea of having to change it because of catching up again but maybe it’s not that big of a deal?
The game gives you a warning right before you confirm your choice and above that in yellow writing it tells you that will have the option of changing covenants in the future.
Changing the covenant is fairly simple to my knowledge. It’s if you want to go back to your previous one that is the hard part.
As it’s a two week time gated process because Blizzard.
All could’ve been avoided if the abilities were just another talent row.
On my main who did the campaign it was easy to pick a covenant after trying them all.
On my alts who just used the Threads Of Fate path where you must pick a covenant right away, is more complicated. I spend a good 30mins near the covenant and try their abilities but its much more stressful to pick it so soon.
Tho there’s no way i’m redoing the whole campaign again.
Yeah it’s basically like how am I suppose to know what to choose for optimization whenever it’s constantly evolving. I’m probably overthinking but I seriously don’t like the uncertainty. Also, I am not pushing that stuff but I want keystone master each season and I already really suck at playing my class no matter how many guides and such I watch/read/listen to, so I kind of need everything I can get. I also don’t really have friends or any specific groups for running m+ with except for maybe guild groups if they happen to have a good key but even then it wouldn’t be a full guild group so I would end up having some pugs in it anyway. I live the pug life most often because of this which sucks but I don’t really have any other options. So my covenant choice might have to be based on that. Thoughts?
If you are playing a movement challenged class like DK’s, those movement powers are very interesting. But all of the powers have their place. I think the decision will come down to how the soul binds interact with the covenant powers and class abilities. To each their own.
Maybe it’s just overthinking because I play the game a lot anyway but still one of many factors in my decision.
If the covenant you like isn’t the absolute worst option for you, then go with that. For most specs the second and (sometimes) third choices aren’t too far behind. Also, the best covenant is one that is likely to get nerfed while the middle ones are mostly left alone. Should provide a relatively stable choice that could end up giving you the best covenant somewhere down the line.
EDIT: Depending on available playtime, you could always just opt for four of the same class, one in each covenant. That way you always have the best option available. This would take considerably more work on your part though.
bro you’re like 2k io lmfao your decision barely matters unless you plan on mythic raiding or doing 20+ keys don’t sweat it
There is still the uncertainty there of having to switch back and catching back up with anima or whatever, but I don’t really know much about this.
Can we do away with this notion that only AotC mythic raiders want the best talent choices for the content they’ll be engaging in?
I’m a very casual raider and even I would rather have a covenant ability that will help me in raids. It’s especially bad if I want to both tank AND DPS on my warrior: no matter which covenant I choose, I’m going to be lying their dead after a wipe wishing I had the ability from the other one.
Being pigeonholed into a spec is also no fun whatsoever. The beta testers were warning the devs constantly and still went ignored.
I have already done the whole campaign on this character (my main) and have gotten to the part where I need to choose my covenant and am still stumped. It’s more than just the abilities though to be fair
i dont care about min/max, i am going Maldrax because that one appeals to me.
and i’ll add that if the guild feels i should be another in order to join raids/mythic, then i will change guilds.
I kind of compromised with Necrolord.
Venthyr & Necrolord seemed the most appropriate for a warlock to me, but I’ve heard Bastion is BiS despite being ridiculous for a lock thematically. Turns out Venthyr is absolute garbage for Destro, and Necrolord is pretty good.
Hence: Necro time.
I feel like this is some good insight and an interesting thing to consider in regards to your edit. I’ll have to toy around with that thought some more
Covenants are not that big of a deal to change if it makes you feel better. takes about 4 days, this early its almost instant to catch up on a new covenant.
Doesn’t change the fact that in the greater scheme of things it doesn’t matter if you’re a casual raider because even with the most suboptimal choice you’ll have little to no issues killing normal/heroic raid bosses.
If you’re wiping it’s a YOU issue, not a covenant issue
