Choosing a new main in Shadowlands

Which class should I choose? I love Demon Hunters lore wise and have mained mine since Legion. However, having one DPS spec and no major changes to the class is starting to burn me out. On top of that I have heard that Demon Hunters are getting massively nerfed in Shadowlands. What’s the best alternative class? I dislike mage and monks.

HAHAHAHAH no major changes. “Nerfed into the ground” doesn’t count as major changes? And right now, it looks like blizz is trying to push momentum :face_vomiting: to be the go-to build for SL, instead of Demo.

Right now it’s kind of hard to tell with other classes. Rogues aren’t done yet. DKs are questionable. Honestly, just wait until 9.0, or try some different classes on PTR.

Frankly, I’m sticking with DH right now in the hopes that some major fixes are coming down the pipeline.

I am preparing Hunter (both BM and MM) and my Lock (Destro/Aff) for SL. They can turn the knobs all they want, but when you build an entire class from day one with borrowed power as part of their toolkit, the current class issues (both overpowered and underpowered) were inevitable.

I will still level and play the DH… but if things don’t change, it will def be Hunter or Lock.

Well, you can either play a class because:

  1. You want a main whose class fantasy resonates with you. Just do a little research and get a feel for the design of the class and what a rotation looks like. I say this because, as much as I like my DH, they’re not looking good in shadowlands. I’ll still play it, but I’ll likely main my spriest, who actually received a much needed overhaul.
  2. You’re interested in competing in high mmr arena, pushing high m+ keys, and/or mythic raiding, and you want a class that’s fotm, in which case the meta will decide that for you. It’s just not possible to know what classes are dominating, because we haven’t reached the end game yet.

Personally, I always recommend you follow the class fantasy. Unless your class is overtly awful, it’s always possible to shake up the meta if you’re a skilled player.

Whoi told you that? DH already have a really big and rounded toolkit plus getting mortal strikes added.

No offense but this made me giggle

If you are actually interested in learning about the state of havoc in SL, this is a great place to start.

Throughout BFA, the spec remained mostly unchanged but the acquisition of Azerite Traits, the second ring of Azerite Traits in 8.1, essences and more recently Corruptions really helped Havoc stay relevant in the general meta of higher end content. Heading into Shadowlands, Havoc is losing all these borrowed power systems that allowed the spec to shine and the long lasting core issues of the spec become more and more visible and problematic once more.

When systems are in place for years at a time (Azerite) the effects they provide become more than something players pick for the time being. These effects become something that we identify with the spec. Borrowed Power is fine, it affects everyone. When borrowed power defines our spec, we are in big trouble

If you enjoy Havoc right now and don’t mind playing 200% slower in Shadowlands you won’t have any issues. If you subscribed to the fast paced fantasy that Havoc historically had you are in for big disappointments in Shadowlands.

It’s looking pretty grim.

This, This, This. Is that ten characters?

But yeah, Kib (as always) sums up the problem in a comprehensive, cohesive, and complete article.

You are severely misinformed, plus Mortal Strike only affects PvP and does literally nothing for every other piece of content the game has to offer. Havoc is getting massively nerfed in the survival department and also getting the shaft on the damage/fun department via Demonic nerf.

I’m honestly leaning heavily towards my Shadow Priest. I used to play it a lot in Legion but benched him in BfA because it just felt horrible to play. It’s looking a lot of fun now in the PTR and might become my new main coming Shadowlands. Another class I’m considering is a Rogue due to it literally always being a safe bet because just like Mages and Warlocks, they are part of the favorite children circle.

rogue is always S tier. and kinda ninja - like similar to DH in some ways.

their kidney shot is 1 of the best abilities in the entire game pvp wise.
they get mortal strike effect without having to use a pvp talent to get it.
they have baseline snare
on demand self heals
stealth is super fun
some of the best cc in the game, blind into sap into kidney shot can take a healer out of the game for 22 seconds while ur dots tick and ur partner helps kill the kill target

im prolly gonna main rogue and druid in SL
