I’m well aware of how raiding works, but thanks for explaining it to me as if I am an infant. I’ve only been doing this since 2004.
black and white loot policies never do anyone any favors. Giving a choker to a mage who has been in your guild for 3 days over a healer does the guild no good when said mage turns out to be unreliable or gquits a week later. Refusing a priest who is part time heals, part time shadow depending on guild needs on the basis of “dps>heals” – again, another stupid black and white decision. Hence my “i am not a fan of loot policies with a hard and fast “dps>heal” policy”.
Yea, I didn’t come up with it myself, it was created by a group of private server Priests. I trust them over some self-proclaimed elitist Holy Paladin.
you are saying they must be lying because the “math” says that it would have had to drop in them runs …I am saying that RANDOM number is RANDOM even with something that has a “50% drop rate” you can kill it 50 times and still not see it because its still random
I’m saying the opposite of that. Someone experiencing a 1 in 43 probability event is ENTIRELY believable.
This is where probabilities come in. You’re talking about coin flips.
Yes, there’s always a chance of having a string of 50 tails in a row.
No, I’m not going to just believe you if you tell me you flipped a fair coin 50 times last night and got 50 tails in a row.
If you did that EVERY night for all eternity (or at least for a much longer time than a human life), we would expect a string of 50 tails about once every 1,125,899,906,842,624 nights.
I’m not saying the choker should be prio to healers over dps. But not all healers care about spirit. As a paladin spirit gives me zero benefit in combat, whereas intellect does.
7 intel is 105 mana, and rank 1 FoL (we downrank our heals) costs 40 mana. So you get 2.5 extra casts per encounter with the choker compared to the animated chain. Currently I have 23% chance for my heals to crit, so we’re looking at about a 46% chance for one of those extra heals to be a crit.
Paladins only mana regen in combat is from critical heals. Any time a heal crits, 100% of the mana cost is returned. So taking that base mana cost of 40, and roughly 50% crit chance from the bonus means on average I’d get 20 mana back. 105 (7intel) + 20 (the average return I can expect) = 125 mana, or 3 free heals. So no, the animated chain doesn’t stack up to the firelord for all healers.
That being said, if your guild uses DKP then there’s no question who gets it. Just whoever puts up the most DKP. If you have a loot council, and you’re super serious about clearing MC as quickly as possible every single week, and you’re all about that min max, then yeah… give it to dps first. But if you’re just clearing it and having fun progressing, then give it to whoever puts out the most effort and helps the guild/raid the most and don’t worry so much about wether it’s a healer or dps.
You may have played the game since 2004 but it doesn’t sound like you learned too much after all this time. No offense btw because I am not trying to be rude here.
And I know it can be confusing to you but these are two completely different underlying concepts being discussed right now.
I am talking about raid progression from a logical stand point. You are talking about loot distribution based on merit. Obviously a guy who just joined a guild 3 days prior shouldn’t be given an item over another.
You are missing the whole point, and it’s because you are too busy throwing out a scenario that won’t likely happen in most guilds.
If there are two equally merited members in a raid where one is a mage and the other being of course a priest; Logistically a holy/disc priest should never get it over the mage.
go back to my post. reread it again. reread it 3 more times if you need to rather than getting triggered at me saying there are circumstances where it isnt beneficial to autoloot to a dps over a healer. Really marinate in the words. think long and hard about what was actually said. Then lets chat about how i ‘didnt learn too much’ as i was part of the world 16th kt kill.
Why would I be triggered? Lol. This is a place where we share and discuss ideas.
You brought up playing since 2004 as if you are the only one whose played since then. Guess what? I have also played since 2004, and so have millions of others.
We don’t need to know about your Nax KT accomplishment lmao. It’s absolutely irrelevant to this conversation.
since you seem to be having trouble, i’ll quote my posts for you:
i would never take it as a healer. its a dick move. its a +1 healing and a handful of int upgrade over the blue neck.
that said, i am not a fan of loot policies with a hard and fast “dps>heal” policy. sometimes the healer is just more reliable and deserving.

Now, please explain to me how from those words, you interpreted it to mean ‘healers should be given it over dps in most circumstances’.
We read it. It’s just dumb. The choker is still serviceable to a DPS caster all game. It has nothing to do with a healer. “Oh, life is hard for me when I grind solo as a holy priest.” Level an alt then or join righteous orb grinds. If you played since 2004 you knew what you were getting into and any sane guild trying to actually clear content isn’t giving DPS items to healers and giving tank items to DPS until everyone is outfitted.
Mine does, but most healers know that there’s a blue necklance that comes from strat dead that has almost the exact same stats on it, but is healer only. Personally, I’d pass this to a dps any day… but if I was a dps I probably couldn’t cry too hard if a healer outbid me.
Everybody is so obsessed with numbers… your healers need gear too for when you don’t move out of bad because you’re trying to pad the meters with that one last cast.
Yea you said that and then contradicted yourself and backtracked at least twice following. Go back and edit your comments if you want to be more clear. I’ll gladly delete mine in that case. Until then you’re wrong.
