All of these FotM Elemental Shamans you see will disappear over night at some point.
At the moment, Ele is better than the best Mage spec (frost). But mage has 3 ranged DPS specs and Shaman only has 1. So the odds are that Mage is going to be better than Shaman more often than not in the future.
There really isn’t a “better” option between the two as they are very different. You would be better served looking at the functionality of the two and the pros/cons and deciding what is better for you.
Mage isn’t amazing right this second, but they have historically been one of the best classes. Elemental shaman has been on a rollercoaster since the beginning.
Mages have better defensive cooldowns, but elemental has better passive durability.
Both bring bloodlust.
Mage utility is pretty straight forward. Shaman utility is much more versatile.
Mages have three specs and you will usually be expected to know all three and use whatever is best at the time. Elemental is a single spec.
Elemental can heal in the same gear if you want. Mages have no such option.
Mages do not lack for buttons to push, but shamans require a lot of keybinds for all their totems. So many keybinds.
Blink is stronger than ghost wolf, but has a cooldown. Ghost wolf has no cooldown.
Shaman can heal and rez others.
Hope this helps.
You can never go wrong with mage. Ele can be good and can be bad depending on devs’ mood. But mage is eternally good, assuming you can play all 3 specs.
It’s really not very good right now.
Thanks for your feedback !
And what about balance drood ?
Never test this class
Is it in a good spot ?
I don’t know what weed you are smoking but you should stop. Current top 10 key was timed by a mage. World first raid stacked mages.
That was 2 months ago, since then mage has been nerfed and many other classes have been buffed.
Raids only cares about progression. After complete the raids, it’s game over. And mage is usually the top choice for raid to world firsts.
M+ only cares about the final result, and currently mage is holding top 10 key. And historically, mage has highest frequence to be in the top keys.
Are you telling me that mage is in a bad state ?
The guys is not rerolling 2 months ago though is he? It doesn’t matter what was good in the RWF race if you are still progressing now, which most guilds are. Mage is significantly worse now than it was at the start of the season.
And historically, mage has highest frequence to be in the top keys.
Like I said, there’s a good chance mage will be good again in the future, but at the moment it’s very mid.
Between Ele Shaman and Mage:
Shaman
Mage
Balance
All in all, each and every class is playable for all content in the game. Up to +10 in keys, each class is more than capable of doing very well.
Roll mage if you don’t want to heal. Roll shaman of you want to be able to heal for easy invites.
Mage has 3 DPS specs and 1 is always meta. As a former mage main (give mage tank please), you can’t go wrong with mage.
Fire Mage tank would be so cool!
You could summon Flaming Weapons (swords and shields) as a defensive
Cauterize Wounds as a self heal
Flame Mark (taunt)
Meteor (ranged aoe threat)
Combust as an offense/defense CD
Flame Strike for basic AoE
Fire Slash for melee filler
If you want to roll a rdps specifically, don’t pick the single spec option. Builds are constantly changing and it’s nice to have options when they move in a direction you don’t like. Mage has 3 different flavours that feel unique. If you never want to offheal, go mage, if you like having a healing offspec, ele is one of the best rdps choices.
What flavour do you ike? If it’s ZAPPING LIGHTNING FROM MY FINGER TIPS you will never love mage but otherwise go mage.
Guess it depends on how patient you are. Generally I’ll only play classes capable of healing, so if it were between Shaman or Mage I would choose Shaman so I could get into groups as a healer if I was sitting too long as a DPS.
I would worry less about current tuning. Everyone is always bad patch news away from not being meta. The absolute best advice anyone could give you is finding a class you think is cool and just making it work for you. Some seasons you hit the tuning lottery, some you don’t, but in all seasons you can do 90% of PVE content as anything you want to play if you get decent at something.
