Chief Diversity,Equity, and Inclusion Officer

I’m 6’0 sitting at 205 myself at the moment hahahahaha. I remember one time this frail little thing swung at me full force and it felt like a 12 year old was just mad about having to do homework and couldn’t resist hitting his dad. I told him he’d better run right now. LMAO you should’ve seen how fast he could run hahahaha. This guy I’m speaking of was like 24 or something.

I refuse to believe anyone who actually believes that this is something that exists has spent any actual time in the workforce.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but do you manage staff as a high level executive? If so, you would totally understand getting the right people in positions to succeed and thus make your life easier. People with mentality as such are not in the position of bringing people onboard.

im in my 30s so i gain a bit more weight than i use to

It’s a good cover for people that automatically assume any time a straight white male isn’t hired to an office position, it’s because a lesser qualified person took the job through affirmative action and woke politics.

Yes, people are actually dumb enough to believe the right person always gets hired for the role.

Yeah, right, as we all know corporate types would never engage in nepotism. That just doesn’t exist in the corporate world!

Thats RIDICULOUS and NOT how affirmative action works.

Where I work, the DIE officer sends out an email about once a month reminding everyone to be more inclusive. Nice work if you can get it.

Tell that to Elizabeth Warren, who got a job at a prestigious university because she lied and said she was native American. They had to check one of the diversity boxes before they could hire her.

in a perfect world the system would not be abused. but seeing how we live in a flawed world with people who care about themselves over others it is clearly abused like most systems.

Which is why you axe the obviously abused systems and embrace freedom. At least then people are free to make their own decisions. The problem with mandated systems is that the people mandating them are idiots more often than not.

We need more pandas for Jailer or we’ll never have a diverse enough comp.

Generally speaking the freedom to discriminate is only freedom for those who do the discriminating.

Says the guy that almost certainly discriminates against conservatives. Everyone has their opinions. If I start a company and only want to hire left handed blue haired dudes named Jeffrey, then the government can shut the hell up about it.

Why SOME people disagree with you is because it appears you can only see this issue through the lens of sex / race / sexuality. The same things happen to CIS white men that don’t fir in either except we don’t have a box to check. We have experiences where we go apply for the next level job after years of service, exemplary reviews and support from senior leadership saying you are ready for the next level as you are already doing the job. Then the hiring manager takes you to the final round of interviews and the guy he drinks wine with or talks basketball with (that was fired several times for poor performance) gets the job -happened to me 4 or 5 times :frowning:

See my post above about being the LOWEST paid person (in relation to midpoint) in my org, even below women and minorities.

You ignore people like me, saying either I am lying, saying it doesn’t happen or if it does who cares. I greatly affected my and my children lives.

The fact that you literally seem to not care about MY situation because I am not the correct sex /race /sexuality for you is why we argue. We don’t hate ANYONE, but we don’t want to be discounted either

And there in lies the problem, lots of people think just because you are a white male you don’t get screwed over as well. Just because things get more diverse doesn’t mean they are going to stop hiring and promoting their friends and family who may be less qualified for the position. No matter who you are if you have been working for more than 20 years you’ve probably gotten screwed out of being hired or promoted at some point.

I personally don’t have an issue with Ms. Hines being hired as long as she is qualified for the position. The position itself though does give me pause for several reasons, none of which has anything to do with her personally.

My issues are that these type of positions generally do nothing but suck money out of the company. They do it by creating rules, regulations, and paperwork that works it way down to ground level employees and it does nothing but waste time that could be used for something productive. Worse off is that most of the time it’s done for no other reason than to try and justify their position.

I also understand that I wouldn’t want a position like that at all. When they need to cut costs, they are the first out the door.

That is not why she got the job, and it has been thoroughly investigated. The Boston Globe did a piece on it. She claimed in a stats sheet after being hired. The university did use it later to claim they were “diverse”. Timing though indicates it was not a hiring factor.

What she did was claim Indian heritage on her mother’s side based on family stories. She did not have documentation though (as many don’t) and a DNA test proved that while she did have some Indian DNA, it was not enough - esp without documents - to prove it. It was just a family story.

She has since thoroughly apologized for listing it on surveys or stats boxes.

My aunt is still furious to find out that she is mostly Irish after being told forever by family stories she was Scottish. She was deeply invested in that identity and can’t seem to get over it.

You have to keep in mind, prior to genetic testing, all most people had were the family stories. It would be fascinating to see just how many people find out that what they were told about their family history is not even remotely true. heh

This is something that was happening at Blizzard too. Not everything going on was sexual harassment or discrimination. That frat boy culture meant hiring and promoting people they felt friendly with - who had their back. It meant not just women and minorities were unfairly denied promotions or professional development options - so were cis white persons who were not part of the clique.

Fair hiring, evaluations, promotions, and reviews benefits everyone - except the frat bro cliques who might get angry that they have to do actual work to get ahead now instead of having a friend boost them.

I believe I have replied to your concerns about job fairness, paternal leave, and family care with validation and care - that modern workplace fairness movements include YOU and you should be pushing for it. Also that I was glad the salary review revealed the unfair wage practices and you got it fixed. Happened at my work place too. Mostly to people outside the clique.

A lot of people care about your situation. Including the person Blizz hired who is there to see that those sorts of frat boy cliques don’t control work place hiring, promotions, etc. That parental leave is extended to both parents. That religious, cultural, and family things are understood and not used to denigrate or restrict people. A fair workplace benefits everyone - including white men.

True. The reason I speak out is a position like this USUALLY does not help everyone. Diversity and inclusion are dog whistles that are only about CERTAIN diversity and CERTAIN inclusions.

I believe you have and my response was not direct back at you. You seem to at least accept there are people outside the rigid boxes everyone else wants to force someone into.

I am in my mid 50s, sick (close to disibility) and taking care of my fully disabled son. I have no future in any company to worry about - I only for 15 or so hours per week any more. The last time I worked this little I was 14.

Again, in my experience, if it were a sex / race / sexuality issue, I would have full support from someone in a role like this. Being a cis white male means I simply am less visible to these people than the ones these people worry about are to the frat boy culture.
