Stupid chess event shouldn’t take longer than the rest of Kara (and sometimes other raids) depending solely on how unlucky things get.
There’s a way to do it in like 3 moves but I don’t remember how it went…

Since I wanna buy the PVE/PVP helms for all classes so gotta farm what feels like a billions helms from Prince which makes it even better when it seems half the time, tier token bosses in there (and the other BC raids) don’t drop a single one on the kill.
I read something that said you could just control the king and spam the hero buff over and over.

I haven’t seen a thread on this issue in a very long time.
They’ve made old raid fights less tedious and more doable in the past so they should really do a sweep through older stuff like this and make it less of a headache.

Let’s not pretend that the Chess encounter isn’t a tedious slog. It’s practically impossible to fail, but to win means sitting through unnecessary padding.
Karazhan is my favorite raid in the entire game (mostly nostalgia and a love for the lore).
I have seen the final boss twice in the last 15 years. Once, I took a friend and we managed to 2-man it and once I got very lucky and managed the solo strategy (which is still somewhat RNG dependent). I’ve tried dozens of times. I know it’s doable, but it’s a lot.
I am happy to full clear the entire place. They can lock the chess skip behind killing every single killable thing, but the Chess event as a required encounter has overstayed its welcome.
You move the pawn in front of your king up 2 spaces.
You move the king onto the field and spam the AOE ability (3rd button). Retreat the king out of fire or if you get swarmed because the priests can’t keep up with that.
Unlike real chess, the king is super powerful. The queen/mage piece is kinda strong too but not worth the effort over controlling the king and spamming its attack.
Also if you can, prioritize sniping down the priests/bishops. They can damn near full heal and their AI will protect their king but the AI also loves moving them out onto the field.
Edit - Yes it is a slog fight but it’s still incredibly easy. Just don’t be stupid and try and take on the side king when it’s buffed or you are swarmed and in fire. Your own priests will heal you too, but it still has a cooldown. I’ve been in kills where I killed 2/3rds of all their stuff before their king finally got close enough to kill. The worst you can do is slog through the fight and get impatient and go take on a buffed king (the cheat effect) and get slapped down and have to do it over.
Chess event was designed for a raid of players, and not for solo players… what would u want past the chess event anyway
I’d rather do the classic chess event than sit thru return to karazan’s “daddy issues” story.
The only set I didn’t farm out of Kharazan was the mage set because it was so ugly.
I did that crap 18+ years ago when Kara was current. I’m okay with it getting obliterated out of existence now that it’s almost old enough to drink.
i think they fixed that when they changed the ai for legion. that ahsnt been a viable strategy for ages.
There’s no good reason for it to be a required fight. It should have always been skippable, and should never have a cd on switching pieces.
Raids were always gonna do it for free loot.
Soloers have 4 actually competent pieces that need to be constantly shuffled into a position for them to be useful.

1 actually in the king. Been running it a ton this week trying to get the few tier helms to finish sets for some classes.
Start in the king to start the encounter and abandon immediately
Run to pawn in front of king and move it up 2 spaces (1 move) and leave it
Run back to king and move out and start cleaving pieces. Never push the 4 ability unless you end up running back and cant cleave and nearby pieces are fighting. The enemy AI had no cooldown on their piece moves
Retreat if you get swarmed and wait for heals
There is no need to juggle pieces. Just spam cleaves on the king and move to keep it alive. Fire spots dont hurt much but buffed pieces do and the king is always picked I am 99% everytime fire cheat happens
Honestly for all the older raids they should do this period at this point.
I still think it was scuzzy to only do SoO when there are older just as long raids that most of us are literally there for either teir transmogs or mounts. And no I’m not counting this event thing with slightly increased drop rates. I mean permanately for all classes all older raids,ectera.
