Chat rules question?

I remember someone once saying you could report people for talking about politics in chat but that seems a bit sketchy and I don’t necessarily believe it.

EDIT: Sorry I should clarify. In-game chat.

Which chat?

In this case it was Random Battlegrounds.

Why would you report a discussion of politics?

Because it’s the worst form of discussion on the internet by a wide margin? And it leads to toxic behavior?

Can be: yes.

Will anything come of it: it depends.

So, it didn’t lead to toxic behavior, you were just afraid it would?

No… it did. But that’s besides the point.

So, why don’t you report the toxic behavior?

I did. I’m just asking if bringing up politics for no reason just to incite a hostile environment is also something people can be reported for?

It doesn’t really seem like a topic that has any place in casual chat, imo. Let us escape from reality.

I heard a discussion between two guys once.

Guy 1: Politics happens when the 3rd person enters a room.
Guy 2: No, politics happens when the 2nd person enters a room.

I guess I can see both points although I think Guy 2 is more correct.

No. Neither you nor anyone working at Blizz is a mind reader.

You’re really an obtuse person and you’ve been of no help so I’ll avoid you now.

I’m beginning to think you might have been the problem in your little political discussion.

I would say that politics in itself isn’t bad, but it can obviously lead to some flame wars. Most topics can, but obviously politics, religion, etc, are more likely to do so.

If someone were to say something like “I support funding public libraries with taxes”, I doubt reporting them would do any good. However if they said something more inflamatory like “X group of people are horrible and should be dumped on deserted islands”, that’s more likely to be report worthy.

As with most things, common sense will likely make it obvious. It may also depend on the chat channel in question as trade chat and similar things wouldn’t be the best option.

Time and place for everything.

Bg chat is especially not a place for it.

Depends on the group. I can think of three groups of people right now while typing that are ok to dump on a deserted island, according to popular fare.

vote xalatath for president

I say let them have free speech. Unless there’s verbal abuse or something akin to harassment there’s no real reason to report others for having political discourse.

I think that’s why the ignore feature exists… so you can ignore people that you don’t want to listen to, right?
