Is there an addon to make the size of the chat font bigger
Addons? Go analog and get a pair of readers.

You could sit closer to your screen.
Pretty sure you can increase it with the default UI by right clicking the chat panel name, font size should be an option. Personally I set mine to 16 because I have my screen a bit far from me.

I highly recommend Prat. It gives you granular control over the look of your chat box and actually has a surprising number of convenient and powerful functions. And of course, you have font/size options.
