Characters changing class?

What would be RP reasons for a character changing their class? I have considered turning this one to a druid.

Learned a new skill. Decided to follow a different religious path. Decided mages are the root of all evil on Azeroth and should all be banished. Wait, that is just me.

I like a few mages, but really, all bad things can be traced back to them.

But not us Necromancers, we’re the good guys. Cartoon Wink

Lifestyle changes, ideas/finding they have hidden skills, learning, anything really! Some skills are easier for some than others. A mage becoming a warrior? Easy. A mage becoming a demon hunter? Not as easy. It just depends.

He is against the oil drilling done by Goblins and wishes to protect the wild. #DownWithBigGobo

I’d like to provide an example of my own. I have Druid who ic was formerly a Mage prior to the War of the Ancients. She took up druidism to avoid exile, and while she preserved much of her knowledge of the arcane arts, her practical prowess waned in contrast to her present vocation.

My druid is a former Highborne mage. While she still uses the arcane, she uses it often in conjunction with nature magic (astral magic), and she’s staunchly of the belief that looking after leylines and ensuring they’re in normal order assists with the balance and ecosystem in the area.

Balance druids are good candidates for a mage dual-class.

This character is an aging warrior. I could see them trying to switch classes just to make up the gap as their physical skills decline. Probably won’t, but it’s a justification that I think would make sense.

All classes are just slightly differing shades of Barbarian.

I’ve had one character over the course of Several incarnations, starting with Druid, leveling as a Mage and Priest respectively to represent a diversified skill-set and means.

Multi-classing is a hard habit to break.

That said

Getting Religion (starting as a priest/paladin.)
Finding a mentor of a different discipline.
Falling back on older skill-sets more reliable for the circumstances. (Magic-user apprentice remembering how to wrestle someone into the ground from warrior/veteran days)
Falling back on older skill-sets that are more costly but necessary. (Trying not to be a warlock, practicing as a priest but faltering in faith or oaths).

Consider what might make you change Majors at a university. Big decision, but not the end of the world.

The Titans are heavily associated with the arcane which are what mages specialize in. We also know the Titans, Eonar and Keeper Freya, helped shape the Emerald Dream. Given current story beats in the game, your mage visits the dream and uses this opportunity to learn of its magics which leads them down the path of Druidism.

Otherwise, plenty of people don’t RP as their class. My character is not at all a monk but just some weird magic crystal space man. You can change your TRP to say you are a Druid or Leodrien is the coolest guy on Moon Guard and if someone gets all annoying about your TRP class, just tell them to role play and use their imagination. You will see though that many people either don’t RP as their class or they do but have changed it over time as their character changes and develops.

Dracthyr Holy Priest. At least for Ralerath, she has spent a lot of time in the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind sort of learning how to be a person from the people who come and go from there. Also, considering Deathwing/Neltharion’s fate, it makes sense for a Dracthyr to go “…Yeah, just gonna- Gonna side with the OTHER side of that cosmic spectrum.”

In my experience, I had my Hunter change over to Druid after the loss of her animal companions and brother (who was also a Druid) to follow in his footsteps. I do plan on changing her back soon as a Hunter again but with some added Druidic abilities.

TLDR; Do what makes you happy and makes sense. If you stay within a reasonable story, you could make some cool class combos.

I tend to multiclass a lot of my characters. What says that a Paladin or a Death Knight can’t learn to fight in leathers and with lighter weapons? Maybe not full on ‘rogue’ but learning how to be stealthier in case a mission has need of it?
