I’m trying to transfer servers on my main,
I have the server change paid for and it’s sitting on my account - I select my hunter, click destination server and accept, the screen just pauses for a second then goes back to the character select screen?
I’ve opened a ticket, just hoping maybe GD has the wisdom
I have no mail, not in a guild, no auctions pending

Is the name available on the new server? I’m just guessing but it’s all I got.

Yeah, it should prompt you to rename if that was the issue. 
I’d make a fresh toon of the same name just to check it. If you can make it with the new name, then you can eliminate that as an issue at least.
As soon as you delete the toon your name will be freed up again.
Usually its something silly holding you back like mail in the mailbox or heirlooms in your inventory. Maybe even too much gold for your level? Possible Auction House listing still up?
Those types of limitations (heirlooms, caged pets, gold limit) usually flag up right away. If it is a name, they will still transfer the character and you will be prompted to select a new name when you first try to log into the character on the new realm.
I think the ticket is probably the best bet, as recently, character transfers have been very smooth (I’ve done 2 or 3 in the last couple of months with no issues). I recall that doing them from the account website would tell you immediately if there was something preventing the transfer.
Have you checked the email associated with the account?
Mine didn’t last two times I tried to transfer… one being mail, other being too much gold. This was when done through the game UI though.
