Technology has come a long way in the last 19 years.

I think we’re ready for 16 character length names with spaces, hyphens and apostraphes.

Hate that NPCs can have hyphens and we can’t.

Yes, please and thank you. Especially given the policy change on how people can save names for an eternity without ever having to log into WoW.

The choice of a space, hyphen or apostrophe gives us the naming conventions of races in the game, while also covering those who want a last name.

All the character names in a Battle.net account automatically become available after the Battle.net account remained inactive for two expansions

It does appear to be at a Battle.net level, so if you are active on any license, it resets the timer for name release. I believe it’s worked that way for awhile but we didn’t have it specified

Of course, this is subject to change, as we are working to try to be as fair as possible to those who want to reserve specific names and also those who want to use a name that may have well been completely forgotten by the original user. If anything changes we’ll update that article to reflect it.

From what I found out, active in this case just means logging into. So it would apply to both an active and inactive WoW license.

For clarification, by “any license” I do mean any game license on the Battle.net account, not exclusive to WoW licenses. I am checking to make sure that I have that right and will update if that is not but as I understand it, the timer will refresh by logging into any WoW license you have on the Battle.net account as well as your Hearthstone license.

As I mentioned, this is something that could be updated at some point in the future as we want to be fair to all involved. This currently works within the limitations of the systems we have.

Last names too. But til then RP addons fill the role nicely enough.
