Hi all! Good evening! I have a quick question about names restrictions for characters …
I was reading the rules and couldnt finde something about it … are there still some restrictions about characters names? For example, main lore PNjs?
Cause i choose this name “Jade” (my cat’s name), and in game, there is the Dragon, a dungeon, and a mount named like this. Is there any problems in cases like this? Or if the game allowed me create it im good?
Just curious about it! Thanks
If the game allowed you to create it, you’re OK.
Sometimes Blizzard change their standards for names. Not often, but I’ve heard of it. What they do is make lists of names, and parts of names, that cannot be made. When they update those lists, they do NOT, as far as I have heard, automatically action existing characters with those names; they just restrict new characters taking those names. I’ve seen some posts from people complaining that they can’t make a name that many people already have because the list was changed.
The usual complaints are about names of lore characters, like “Jaina”, or titles, like “King”.
I find 23 characters US-side with that exact name, “Jâde”:
and 103 with the unaccented version “Jade”
and 34 "Jâde"s in the EU-English section
so you have plenty of company!
They do take action against characters who are reported for offensive names, but you would not fall into that category.
There are also special rules about appropriate names specifically on RP realms, and “Rocketman” used to be given as an example, but considering what Goblins get up to, I’m not even sure that holds any more!
So don’t worry about it - you’re good!
Have fun!
