Has anyone heard anything about something like this coming, like they did a couple of years ago? I’m having to get more and more creative with my names, to the point where they’re starting to sound ridiculous.
Edit: Not including this character. I got pretty lucky with Skye.
I could be wrong I thought they did it within the past year.

I believe I read from a previous thread that they automatically release names once the account has been inactive for 2 xpacs.
If you’re searching a name, and find that the character doesn’t appear to have been active for years, its entirely possible maybe the account still is active and they just haven’t used that specific toon.

Hmm… I guess I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed that the names I want will become available once Shadowlands is released. It’s so frustrating though, lol, having the perfect name thought out, only to find that it and every variation of it is unavailable.
Probably no time soon, unfortunately.
I got super lucky and got the name Oasis for my vulpera shaman, fits so good, I was surprised it wasnt taken.
Yeah, it’s always a pleasant surprise when that happens. I recently got the name Tim for a Forsaken Mage. I just love how basic and unassuming it sounds.
I wish they would, there’s always a 100 demon hunter sitting on a name I want somewhere…
I know a lot of people don’t care about names. Like, I have a friend who just hits the random name button until he finds one that he likes, and then just goes with it. I couldn’t do that, unless somehow it was a really cool one. Usually it’s something like Buldrepaoadi, or Kuijarribahu (first 2 names that came up when I hit randomize), or something else long and weird like that.
There’s a certain connection with coming up with a name that fits your character.
Especially as an RPer, it’s very helpful if your name is your character’s name, and isn’t something else because some bank alt is hogging the name you want.
Are you going to make Tim an Enchanter? Perhaps a fire mage?

Alas, such is our hardship. The issue of naming, which has been a debacle for many expansions now, could be easily solved if Blizzard adopted the last name system modern MMORPGs use. So far they seem resistant to the idea, or at least lazy enough not to bother.

I saw this too, and if correct, the next best time to try to reserve a name will probably be when the next xpac comes around.
Lol, that was actually my thought process. I guess he’s undead because the killer rabbit got him.
