Since Blizzard thinks every two years they “release” inactive names depending on whether the account is active not the server it’s specifically set on is the rule. I’ve come to the forums. Alt searching is like virtually impossible, so I ask anyone on Alliance Moon Guard have the name Highborne? I wanna do business.

Edit: I think there should be a way to notify one toon of mail on another character that has not been logged in. Even if not on that realm (Hey you got mail on MG from XYZ character check it out!)

It’s every two expansions, not two years, so more like 5 years on average for an account to not have been played at all. Of course there will be names released every time but again, only those not played for two expansions.
Well they honestly need to take a look at it. I don’t think it’s fair to those trying to play on that realm and get a name. For example, you’ve migrated to X server and left all your alts behind for about a year, or two and most. I get the whole you claimed it first. but inactive is inactive. I’ve deleted a toon and remade it a day later with that same name gone instantly!
Especially if it’s a low level 10 or below, that’s just name hoarding.

The reason they do two expansions is so if a player takes a break for an expansion but comes back all their names aren’t gone. If they don’t play for two whole expansions then it’s less likely a break and more likely they’re done.

Well they should at least allow a way to attempt to contact the person that has that character name. Just being told “Nope you gotta hope they ever see your attempts at contacting them” is just sad.

You can send an in game mail to the toon but the problem with that is obvious. Beyond that I don’t know what you could do. They can’t give you the persons account ID.
Find a new name. Be creative. That’s not a name. It’s a dead caste.
