If blizzard realized the reason I don’t touch all my 110 toons on darkspear is because I hate what the realm has become, then they would offer free migration. I would be playing 10 times more than i am now. I play once a week on 2 toons on Stormrage because i enjoy the server. There really is no reason you should have to pay for migration. Its just computer files and a click of a mouse button on their end. Just as they offer free restoration of items once a month, they should allow free character migration once a month. Just as they stopped making you pay to change the appearance of your toon, they should stop making it a service to change your name. Aren’t they milking the community enough of every possible way to get cash out of us?

the thing is, they don’t realize this: The more toons i have i want geared, the more WOW tolkeins I buy . I would be spending hundreds more per year buying tolkien’s to have my toons do things, because i have no time to grind hundreds of thousands of gold to keep my toons up to snuff. They are actually losing out bug time. Out of principal though, i am not going to spend 25 dollars a transfer x 15 toons. I might as well save to buy a yacht myself
Except this is an MMO with server-based communities (however diminished they might be in modern WoW) and allowing people to move wherever they want for free, even on a cooldown, would completely destabilize any semblance of social consistency we have left, as well as immediately make life much worse for people on low pop realms who refuse to leave their home realm while droves around them bail for “Full” realms.
The price doesn’t exist because the process takes work on Blizzard’s behalf, it exists because they want to make money and they DON’T want people to constantly transfer between realms willy nilly. Same for the other services. The price tag keeps people from doing it without a thought.

Darkspear is deserted, I don’t know if you realize that. And buying anything on the AH is beyond retarded, because there is a lack of competition, whatever is selling there is normally 3 to 4 times too expensive. I see the point that Yungaemisu said though. makes sense i guess. But on CD, like allowed once every 2 months, it still would be nice

What’s with all the people pretending like playing on a dead server like Darkshore is enjoyable and something that can be easily fixed? 
They either need to connect more servers, or give out free server transfers.

Well the time has come them. Megaservers.
I forget which website it is (and I know we shouldn’t go off of it but it’s all we’ve got) but Stormrage, with 500k+ alliance only has 12k active players.

What exactly is wrong with the server?
I can see Blizzard offering free migration from dead or overcrowded servers. Not if the level if douche bagery has risen above the average norms.
time for mega servers, yes. I remember in Cata: darkspear was THRIVING, tonnnnsss of people. it was nuts. Dara Mctire was going on, celebs like swifty, mercador, all these others were in the crowd. its utterly dead now. Many people moved to stormrage, and stormrage is not that great either, and it supposed to be the most populated

CRZ is doing it’s job in fooling quite a lot of people, but if you look beyond CRZ, you see something of an emergency.
Blizzard could probably do 2 Megaservers for NA honestly.

WoW could stand to create a couple pseudo-megaservers via Connected Realms. We’re nowhere near the point of needing that as the solution for the game as a whole though. We have several very healthy realms, it’s just that we have like 230 realms because reasons, so naturally there are a lot of small ones.
Stormage as the most populated Alliance realm only has about 12k active players. If we don’t need Megaservers now, I’m sure we will soon.

It’s rarely as simple as that, we don’t know what they do.
No, if you want to move a character pay for it. There is no such thing as a free lunch.
No, they’re a business. Making money is what they’re making games for.
If it’s about server economies why not make it so they couldn’t transfer gold/materials?
And why not have a limited time free transfer event? One week. Doing this occasionally would enable them to reduce servers and stabilize the playerbase.
Activision and Free are two words that will never be in the same description.
Because that’s a terrible idea. For an example see Rift.
Same can be said for any business. All for profit businesses are out to make money. All businesses only care about making money, none of them are your friends. There is no such thing as a free lunch in the business world.
Maybe you pay to win, but i doubt that the majority of the player base is paying real money to by tokens to buy gear.
