I had this happen once about two weeks ago. I had written up a bug report but never posted it. Your post has prompted me to post it here: Character screen order jumbled after log-out
Feel free to comment your experience or what preceded it happening to you, if anything special or weird happened in-game before it happened. It hasn’t happened since but I dread having to redo it again if this bug re-occurs as I have more than 50 characters and a very deliberate order for them that I have to reference screenshots to get right again.
happens quite often , even my 4 favorite get moved
its happened for me previously.
My bigger issues is this crap forum software that wont let me log into my posting character on my devices. Its defaulting to a character I dont post on and refuses to let me change it.
CRAP software blizzard…do better.
That’s terrible. I’ve avoided using the 4 favorites at the top because it messes with my deliberate ordering and I can’t really pick just 4 myself since I’m such an altoholic so that sits empty for me.
i wish i could tell you what happened…
logged in yesterday and it was shuffled (i reordered it)…logged many times throughout the day checking auctions
today i logged in several times and just now it was once again shuffled…i havent touched game files…i havent done anything out of ordinary…just decided it was time to shuffle everything
Well that’s interesting, it does seem like both of us were interacting with the auction house a bit before it happened so maybe it has something to do with that, maybe not.
I’m not sure I have much hope in Blizzard’s bug investigators prioritizing this one as it does seem to be somewhat rare and given the expac itself jumbled user character list orders they don’t seem to place a premium on retaining those for us. Still might as well give them all the data we can if someone kind does take a look for us.
The same thing happened to me at least two times. This time I looked to see if it was just me or anyone knew why.
I decided this had to be stored somewhere and looked through the WTF/account folder and found character-list-order.txt and character-list-order.old files. The TXT file was dated today and the OLD file was from a few months ago.
I replaced the contents of the TXT file with the OLD file and my toons were back on the original order.
I hope this helps someone.
