Character has to manually join Trade & General every single login

Log into my DK. Notice things are very silent, because this character logged out in the city on Tichondrius and Tichondrius typically has a pretty chatty trade chat …

/1 and /2 just stay white and don’t change from the say channel. Realize I am not in Trade nor General when checking the channels list.

/join Trade and /join General work ONLY FOR THAT SESSION. Upon logout, removed from both and have to do it again next time.

This seems to be happening in conjunction with the glitch that prevents you from stopping the intro cinematic from playing every login to a given character, if that helps. It also didn’t used to happen, but around the time I was starting TWW (was in the first visit to Dalaran during the initial quests if that matters - not the phased invasion version that’s not considered a city but the first visit where you’re doing things like clicking wards and talking to a few NPCs) I got sick and had to stop playing for several days.

Since I know asking CS regarding the movie glitch just gets people told to reset cvars (which doesn’t reliably help people, anyways) I’m assuming there is no way out - character simply screwed and the best solution is simply to warbank and vendor everything she’s gained (since I only just started TWW) and play the whole game over again from Level 1 or 10 depending on class (assuming I don’t want to burn a PREMIUM FEATURE - i.e., boosts - on all this? Starting to get a feeling as to why powerleveling services are so popular lately … LOL)?

IDK, seems like this would solve all your problems

Even complete reset (fresh cache/interface/WTF folders) doesn’t work.

DK still gets the TWW cinematic every single login and still doesn’t have basic channels available either.

Other characters still have chat the way I left them, and do not see the TWW cinematic on login, even if they are high enough level to begin the expansion.

I have no idea what is wrong with this character anymore, or what I even did that caused it to bug (was being logged out in a TWW early campaign phase of Dalaran during this week’s maintenance what started it? It was fine before then. Yay for getting sick basically costing me THREE weeks of progress now instead of just a few days!), or how to even avoid it happening in the future (other than just giving up and going back to Classic Era again lol).

Guess I’ll just warbank what I can and reroll on a different realm, doesn’t seem like there’s any other halfway reliable fix …

For chat did you try /resetchat also?

Your other issue does sound way different if it is happening to one character, is it playing the actual cinematic like when you log into the account for the first time, or the player cinematic like when you start a new character?

I doubt boosts has anything to do with this character issue, players are always looking for easy ways to get to end character content.

Yah but did you reset your cvars? Because you haven’t explicitly stated you have and none of this actually resets them.

That I had not, but really, should we be expecting from here on out for us to have to randomly just completely stop and redo our whole game setup?

The vanilla UI is not good enough to play the game sanely, no matter how much Blizzard constantly peddles “reset to the vanilla UI” as a solution!

(FWIW this also has knock on issues. It basically makes the raid races, for instance, a strictly invitational match race regardless of guilds’ skill because basically ONLY Complexity-Limit and Echo have a close enough ear to Blizzard to have their way cleared of bugs timely, everyone else would just get told “oh just reset everything buddy and try doing top tier content on the bare bones UI and maybe we’ll fix it next Tuesday” which of course is an immediate show stopper lol. But I digress)

It was the yadda yadda about Sargeras’s sword and all that’s supposed to play once when you first start TWW; there have been SEVERAL threads on both the US and EU support forum as well as Reddit about the topic, none of which has been able to find a solution that a) reliably lasts (various variable resets have been tried, including directly changing the ostensibly responsible CVar through an addon, and they change nothing) or b) works for all affected players.

This strongly suggests the bug is deep below the surface and very possibly does have a server-side component (keeping in mind a lot of client settings in WoW ARE actually saved on the server, e.g., hotbar buttons), or is some kind of Windows wonkiness.

WoW does, for that matter, install by default in Program Files where Microsoft puts a lot of extra rules in place, but then people who DON’T have it in Program Files and even Linux users have gotten affected too, which seems to rule out that as well and even more points the finger at the character’s data being cooked on the server.

And if it does involve server side player data it gloomily suggests this is a won’t fix till a later patch resolves it or it becomes well known enough to allow for fixing via ticket, like e.g. the infamous Guild Chat bug that began showing up for people in BFA and persisted at least into SL.

It’s more that if you are forced to reroll, especially if you are employed, there’s that very distinct feeling that you’re going to be stuck burning a boost (which honestly feels like robbery, even though I do still have three 60’s and a 70 available from xpac purchases, I mean what if it happens again? Pony up 60 bucks to stay in the game? Why don’t I just buy COD or D4 at that point? Oh right, because I wanted a co-op PVE focused game where I beat up big monsters in good company, not a lonely PVE or dedicated PVP one! Silly me! I guess I ask for too much! LOL) in order to have even a hope of reaching cap in due time to actually play endgame content instead of Job Search Simulator 2025 like so much of the endgame community seems to be perfectly glad to make latecomers spin wheels playing.

Like, I’m not even sure how much time I’ve got to catch up for S2 launch at this point, to say nothing of what’s left of S1, and we know how fun it is to get into anything if you’re not a launchie (you might be able to shove your way into M+, but forget about raiding, unless you are an established “exceptional” player as the trade ads always say, or you have “you don’t have a job” levels of personal availability to be able to take any port in a storm) …

And seeing that this glitch is so persistent and so character specific (in other words, rerolling will definitely work, while other measures have a high probability of failing or being but temporary, the latter being especially grievous because if you have to keep redoing major interface configuration THAT OFTEN, need I say more?) …
