This is kind of a very obscure and technical question and I’m not sure where to put it. Hope it’s okay here.
So I’ve been messing around with the Atomic Recalibrator toy, which puts down a pad that you can run over to change your character’s race to a random one, a transformation that lasts one hour. The toy itself has a 12 hour cooldown. Using this toy, I’m able to finally realize my dream of playing Tauren on Alliance - with one big caveat. In your transformed state, the appearance of your race-swapped character seems to correspond to the customization options of your un-transformed character, but in a very difficult to figure out way. By changing your character’s appearance at the barber shop, you can see that each change you make changes an element of your race-swapped character’s appearance, but it can be very strange - ‘eyebrows’ on your real race can control ‘face paint’ on your transformed race, or ‘eye color’ determining ‘jewelry’, and other strange equivalencies.
Since the cooldown on the toy is so long, trying to lock in your desired appearance on your race-swapped form is incredibly time-consuming and frustrating. I figured out that the process can be sped up by making many, many, many new level 1 characters and using the toy as soon as they spawn into the world - but it’s still taking forever. I started putting together a document with my observations, but I still can’t make heads or tails of some things. For example, ‘skin color’ seems to be something every playable race can change, but dwarf skin color 11 seems to correspond to tauren skin color 4 for some reason.
Anyway, my question - could there be some easier way to figure out which customization options are linked equivalents between races? Could this information be found somewhere ‘under the hood’ in a place where expert UI/addon/LUA wizards might find it? Is there anywhere anyone could look to ascertain something like ‘troll tusk customization is equivalent to tauren mane customization’? Maybe a website similar to WoWhead’s ‘Dressing Room’ that keeps customization settings when you swap races, so you can see the effects of the toy without needing to wait out the 12 hour cooldown or make dozens of level 1 characters?
Thanks!
