Character Creation, How Important Is It?

I become Obsessed with what my character looks like. I spend a lot of time seeking my character’s ideal appearance. Which involves experimenting with all options/selections and sliders to achieve what I want my character to look like. That goes for any game I play that allows for character creation.

This I think is because I think that this is going to be my main character so I want them to be as close to my vision of it as possible for the long run. In Wow this has been made easier to achieve through the in-game barber shop and the ability to transmog the clothing, armor and weapons over the years. In rpg games I love to paper-doll the character.

So, to me, character creation and customization is extremely important. My question is how important is it to every body else?

It’s very important. If you don’t create a character, you can’t play the game!

(Yes I’m being sarcastic in case anyone is unaware.)

It’s a major key element to a MMORPG. The character is literally how you interact with the world - stuff like character models, armor sets and good class design is major.

Said that, and knowing how far WoW’s character customization has gone, I still think it needs more love, especially because we don’t have even an attempt to try equality among the race/body combos.

See how rich Night Elf customization options are… and now, look at how limited Forsaken is. Both are Vanilla races, and often considered conterpoints. I know I might be biased having this character, but the options available to me are objectively more limited, even considering that we had Shadowlands as a death-themed expansion and there (especially with Maldraxxus) we have a TON of interesting custom Forsaken models with many features that could’ve been available to players.

Other than that, they could implement - for everybody across the board - a “Small - medium - tall” character scaling. Something we already practice, albeit in a very limited way, with some of consumable items.

Pretty important. I can spend an hour on character creation and trying to find the right name. I’m always thinking of backstories for my characters as I create them.

Although, oddly enough, I’m still having issues with backstory for this character. Dracthyr have no real culture or history. Which should give me a lot to work with, but I just feel lost without having something more solid to work with.

Which makes this character feel empty when I play him. But I’m still working on it. I may connect him to my Paladin.

Not this important to me.

Different importance for different people. I tend to use helmets that make most of it pointless.

I am utterly incapable of thinking up names. So I just hit random until I see something appropriate for the race that looks good, lol.

Sen actually went through three name changes after creation. I stock up on those things when there are sales.

It would be great if they could offer at least apostrophes to be used with our name. Or surnames in a best case scenario…

I suspect that is a design decision and not a technical limitation.

I also think it’s important. I love all the different options we have now.
Vines on Night Elves? YES.
I’m also very picky with my names. I can’t name my character something that seems off and deal with it through levelling.
Every time I get a new piece of gear, I want to go to the transmogrifier so my outfit doesn’t get messed up.
Speaking of… I didn’t have time to do that this morning.

That’s how I became Jarlton lol

That’s crazy then, because IIRC Zandalari Trolls do have apostrophes as part of their common naming convention. (If I’m rememebering wrong, it’s another race)
