I get that Blizzard wants to make the barrier of entry for cloning characters somewhat high, as if it was free or very cheap, they’d end up with higher server costs from people who aren’t even playing. That’s all well and good, but $35 per character isn’t the right answer. In my situation, as a Tank I have a very full inventory and bank, so I rely on a bank alt as many others do. Cloning just two characters is $70, the current retail price of a brand new AAA game. I’d rather play something else than spend the money on that.
I have guildies with 10 level 60 characters. It’s just ridiculous to think about how much people will have to spend if they want to continue to have those characters in Classic. There are some easy solutions that would be more acceptable to the userbase. Have the first clone be the full $35, with additional clones at $10 per, or just make it account wide for something like $50. You still have the high barrier to entry to limit the waste of storage/server resources, but you also make it more reasonable for your players. As it is, there’s not a single player in my guild that thinks the current plan is acceptable, and based on the number of threads on this topic, I imagine that’s a common sentiment. I hope Blizzard reconsiders their model for these services, as I think the current plan is going to have a negative effect on classic as a whole.
