Not sure what is happening. I havent played since DF release, but I played pre-patch and got all of the gear pre patch. I was 252 ilvl and had 32 slots bags. Now I took advantage of the returning player “character boost”. Well now I have worse gear and smaller bags. How is this an incentive for players to come back?
its not for players to come back its for alts that has not been used in a while
but if talking about the 60 boost they sell its been like that
Your old stuff is in your mail. The welcome back boost causes more issues than anything.

Those gear boosts helped a bunch of my lvl 60 alts that were still wearing looms and some random drops from the prepatch event. Gives you gear to get into TimeWalking dungeons.

My various characters that hit max level in BfA and then weren’t leveled in SL at all? Their decent (for non-raiding) gear was lower than the ilvl you get from questing at level 35. The boost puts them in decent questing ilvl gear (more than twice the ilvl they were wearing, thanks to the numbers squish when they cut levels down).
It’s also been extremely helpful with characters I previously deleted and got restored, as many of them had been stripped down to no armor and no bags before their prior deletion.
If you are talking about the gear upgrade, it isn’t a character"boost", its just an option to give a character (generally a low level one) some potentially more decent gear than it had if it had been left for a long time.
Good news is, it isn’t obligatory, you can choose not to take it and go with what you have.
It’s more than a lot of other games offer. Which is generally nothing.

It is really for players who quit in like Cata/MoP or something. I would not recommend any SL character use it.

Check your mail, bud. All your old gear and bags will be in the mail. I had the same shiz happen to me, but thankfully I just requipped my old gear.

It really does. I tested it on a DK on a random server I don’t care about, and it just massively screwed my bars up and ugh. Not worth it at all imo.
I mean, yeah, there are niche cases that people have mentioned in this thread. Like my friend who quit in WoD is thinking of coming back and I’d recommend it for some of her toons. But in general, if you’ve got a max level character from less than 3 expansions ago? Ew, no.

Yeah, it’s pointless for any character you have played since BFA. On the few old toons I used it on, the ones that I last played before the level squish got massive bumps in gear quality, like going from IL 50 to IL 150, and anything I played after the SL prepatch was usually a sidegrade or a downgrade.
