Character age

What if you could set your character’s age? Basically from the culture’s age of maturity to…I guess lets say an upper limit of when things might start to get a lil tough.

Like for humans, your starting age could be like, 20. That’s the lowest you can go. Highest you can go is 80. For the orcs that high point could be 90.

For people like elves and such, that age of maturity/limit age could be a lil bigger - say like…for night elves the lower limit could be like, 60-80, the upper limit being somewhere in the 10,000s.

I think it’d be neat if it was something you could set when you make your character - and from there it was permanent. The age you give your character is how old they are when you start them. And every year you play them - they age a year.

I think it’d be neat too if your age changed some aspects of gameplay a lil bit. Not in combat - but maybe in things like professions. I’d like it to change personal areas of the game. Say like…“younger” heroes can craft things faster - maybe have a 50/50 chance to either craft double of one item, or make one trashy item that still gives skill points; And maybe “older” heroes have a 100% chance of crafting a perfect item, with 10% less resources, and gain skill points twice as fast - bc they’re practiced, of course.

Whaddya think?

Oh and there’s no max age after you choose it. If you start out as an 80 year old human and you manage to place WoW for 20 years, your character’s 100 years old. If you go for another 20, then 120. That’s kinda how it goes.

It’s kind of funny to say but I look good for someone over 3,000 years old.

Ask what their secrets to remaining youthful for someone their age.

I would love to make an old human mage with the skinny body model and a long white beard!

There is a racial that changes between night and day for NE:
Touch of Elune
Night elves gain a unique benefit that changes between day and night time.

I am wondering, how do you tell what the time of the day is anymore? My minimap used to have a little symbol that moves around the compass, but I do not see that anymore.

It be funny if they would somehow incorporate that with your age idea.

What’s 26 in belf years? Can we have a table?

Eventually we’ll get:

“New Passive Bonus Earned: Midlife Crisis”

26 is 26. :3 From my understanding Belves and Humans age pretty much the same way - to a point. It’s like at around their 50s that things just kinda freeze. After that it’s just…a difference in experiences. Some belves are more experienced than others because of their age - but after that point they’re all pretty developmentally close.

I’d guess Pen to be about 35-40 since she won’t give me an exact number and keeps calling me a geezer.

As a result of some maturity her Horde identity is not as adamant as it was 10 years ago and she spends much more time as a healer among civilians rather than attached to a military unit.

Draenei might be a little harder to get an age. In rise of the Horde a young Durotan sees a young Draenei that he first thought was around his age but recounts how she was most likely much older than he originally thought. So even their “young” can be old.

I think it’s hard to really do it in game. If there’s any gameplay aspect people will just start min/maxing the perks than choosing the actual age they want their character to be. And if there isn’t one then it’s just a cosmetic number next to your name. One that might not even match. You could make an ancient looking orc and call him 25 years old like that’s going to get him a date.

And if you do go like a 100 year old human people are going to start asking how are you still alive?

Better to leave it as a RP thing. It would be neat having official age ranges for all the various races though.

You’ve got a good point - that’s kinda why I wanted the gameplay aspects to only be limited to things that affect the character. I can see some vague things happening with crafting and the economy but I feel like they’d be super niche.

And with the non matching…I dunno! I feel like it opens the door for more stories!

Khadgar’s like…30 after all. :relaxed:

I mean i like that and glad there’s no limit here suggested, but personally i would rather have it be just cosmetic, where i slide the age slider and i get wrinkles and whiter hair and such. Maybe have it change my walking style and such, but that’s it.

Or maybe have this and in addition, a way to age down with something like crafting potions that age you down by a year with some reasonably expensive materials?

I can’t picture Khadgar as a young guy. He’s one of those types who seems like he was just born a silver fox. xD

But magic stuff happened to him. That’s probably pretty rare.

True! but…it depends!

I can imagine a 20 year old human warlock with silver hair and wrinkles - I can’t imagine what using the fel does to people. There’s also just the daily stress of the constant war. Maybe some people age hard, maybe they don’t!

Also I’m not sure if Khadgar was aged via specifically time magic or if he was just exposed to a ton of it.

whatever the equivalent of at least 18 is in Pandaran years so I can continue to make gold mailbox dancing.
