Figured I’d go ahead and just make a thread now about this trait. It was changed in today’s latest ptr from it increasing eye beam dmg to demon blades/demons bite dmg. Wouldn’t mind peoples opinions/thoughts on this change.
Depends on how much it adds to blades/bite. The reset on Eye Beam and Blade Dance with Meta is still decent for a 1 of especially with the additional azerite ring.
The raw damage portion is a buff for single target and a nerf for AoE, but not a super significant one. I’m also not surprised they changed it to another ability, since they already have an Azerite trait that buffs Eye Beam’s damage (Eyes of Rage).
The addition of Blade Dance to the reset isn’t super significant, since we’re talking about once every 4 minutes a reset on an ability that has, at most, a cooldown of 7.2 seconds during Meta, and in most cases closer to a 4-5s CD (lust + meta + haste rating from gear).
Overall, this trait is still in the category of “decent but not amazeballs”, from a mechanical perspective. In terms of DPS contribution and thus priority amongst the other Azerite traits, it’ll depend on the final tuning of the damage contribution, but I seriously doubt if it’ll supplant the dominance of Revolving Blade, if for no other reason than that Revolving Blades is redonkulous for AoE.
Bit confused here? Do you mean azerite trait? Also if your referring to the nerf to eye beam’s dmg that was reverted already, blizz reverted all their aoe nerfs that had initially gone through.
No one referred to a nerf to Eye Beam’s base damage. The OP, and both Typh and myself, were referencing the new Azerite trait Chaotic Transformation, which is basically a clone of the old Legion talent Demon Unleashed. Prior to the build 3 days ago, Chaotic Transformation increased Eye Beam’s damage by a fixed amount and caused Meta to reset Eye Beam’s CD. The build in question changed it to instead increase Demon’s Bite (or Demon Blades) damage instead of Eye Beam, and to reset Blade Dance’s CD in addition to Eye Beam’s.
That’s the only “reduction” in Eye Beam damage we’ve referenced.
@Xaedys there was another poster whom I replied too. They deleted their post it seems though
Ahhh. Damn, that’s a downside to these new forums. Guess it might be a good habit to get into to quote whom you’re replying to, just to make sure it doesn’t vanish into the ether >.<
Not sure if it shows it for you but on my screen it does show me having replied to apropos
Ah, ya, it does show that. Wish it showed what you replied to. And perhaps if it were a bit more obvious, took a second to actually figure out what you were referring to.
Yeah should’ve been more specific meant to edit to say top right corner of message
To me at least, I love the trait. I feel it is great for AOE and Single target, if used properly. With the cooldown reset of eye beam, you can make a big pull in a Mythic+, then start with Eye Beam > Metamorphosis > Eye beam again. Doing that you will get a total of 46 seconds of meta, which you can extend again since eye beam is a 30 second cooldown, resulting in a 54 second total time spent in meta form. This gives you many more casts of Annihilation as well as Death Sweep. From my own experience, depending on which M+ I am doing, and the affixes, I have my tank make a big pull, with the two eye beam casts and extended meta timer, you can do really nice damage, and depending on how the group is going, you will most likely have the meta cooldown ready when you encounter a boss.
maybe im wrong here as im new to DH progression but you should never eye beam twice in a row. esp if you have any talents that buff your other spells. for eye beam reset trait I got the most dmg out of EB - BD - CS - CS - BD - meta - EB. I do this because casting 2 eye beams in a row effectively wastes a full bar. and getting in a few CS will only make your eye beam hit harder if you have at least 1 seething power. maybe im wrong but even in mythic I cant see wasting a full bar just to get off 2 EB
oops looks like I kinda necrod another thread… oh well you all need to bring up more topics so I got something to read
