seems like every time i set out to get some chaos orbs for crafting an item on my blacksmith, it takes forever. silly of me to have both of my blacksmiths on my non-tanking toons (hunter and rogue).
i try to get some guildies in on the run, usually get 1 or 2.
get into a heroic or za/zg, or now protocol inferno. offer everyone 1k if they pass on orb. clear dungeon, mention the 1k again before last boss. boss dies, my guildies pass on orb, i need, 1 other person rolls need, they win. etc. ad nauseum. 4 dungeons later, with 0 more orbs than i started with, i thank my guildies and move on with life. there is no other reason to do dungeons, have every bit of gear available with valor or fissure stone fragments.
suggestion for blizzard: don’t make chaos orbs unbound. at best make them boa. just make them purchaseable with valor or fissure stone fragments to remove some of the rng and greed you are up against when you try to farm for them.
You can’t trade anything but conjured items and equippable gear that drops from bosses in the dungeon, and I’m not even positive if the latter works here with all the bugs they’ve left in (thanks SoD).
I’ve been running on my alliance pally tank BS for orbs and it’s been frustrating the current RNG fail of how many dungeons I tanked without an orb. I’m valor capped so get nothing from the run. Both my warr and pally tank have basically got all the inferno gear they need, and warrior still doesn’t have the tank belt due to orb. Heroics are quicker to final boss since there’s no fissure frags to go after and less mob hp. Eight runs I’ve tanked with zero benefit to me.
The pally has run so many heroics/inferno that via tabards has maxxed all cata reps, all capital reps, and has only been able to make 1 UG, 2 shields, 1 tank belt. Out of frustration I just bought the SFF tank weap on my warrior since she’ll never see the UG.
However had very good RNG on my horde pally tank BS and was able to craft my DK tanking weapon. Two tank belts, Unbreakable guardian and 1 tank shield.
Once I start my healer tailor in heroics, I’m just greeding orbs. takes 4 orbs for a dreamcloth, so LW and BS can need and make useful gear. One orb = 7.5 volatiles to make 1 dreamcloth. Which by this point, are just using dreamcloth to make bags. I should know, I have 5 tailors. Tailors just waste orbs. Plus, tailors don’t even need orbs to make gear, just allows to make dreamcloth without cooldown and without 7.5 volatiles per orb.
sorry i wasn’t clear on this. i’m aware of that, and i only ask if most of the players are from my server, and offer it only if everyone is down.
what’s most upsetting is that when i’ve gone all out, i’ve pugged people from my own server and invited on the agreement that they pass on orb for the gold, and when we get to the end, ONE person waits for everyone else to pass and get paid, and then they need on the orb and bail, griefing me out of 3k gold AND an orb. it’s an extra super sh*tty thing to do, and people do it and there are no consequences aside from my personal ignore.
chaos orbs are just a really, really badly implemented thing. people with no professions or professions that don’t use them can need on them. people that get barely any value out of them like engy or tailoring need on them all the same, and likely just sit on them because the value is so low. blacksmiths and leatherworkers get to compete with all this greed and it’s why what we sell is valued at 1-5k per orb used.
once chaos orbs become unbound the market will tank immediately and they will become almost entirely worthless.
at least you had the common sense to make your tank the blacksmith. i have 4 tanks, none of them have blacksmithing or leatherworking, and they all have 8-12 orbs each just from greed rolls.
it just blows me away that they skipped this on the fissure vendor. you can buy literal bis raid gear items with them but you can’t buy a crafting material. smh
