Yeah, it’s been my understanding that the only reason top players do it at all is to boost their popularity for stream revenue.
I think it’s a slim chance. Obviously just personal conjecture but my feeling on this is that the playerbase has moved on. From what I saw early classic wow, a large portion of the modern pvp viewership, and at least the vocal minority of the playerbase here on the forums are very much against or not in favour of old wow. )TBC for example.) Either they prefer modern wow, like MoP-Legion for whatever their reason, or they simply can’t find the interest / don’t have the patience to give classic variants of WoW a chance.
From my perspective it’s not a positive feeling. I’m obviously biased. In my opinion you either like TBC-Wotlk, and i include cata now although I wouldn’t have during live cata. Either you like TBC-Cata, or you’re wrong. I’d stand by that. I also enjoyed late mop, but I can’t separate that from the beginning of blizzards complete divorce from classic class design.
It might simply be like music. We grew up with one thing, they grew up with another. But I like to pretend that TBC-Wotlk is objectively a better game for representing values that I appreciate in game design where modern wow completely is without them.
I hope wotlk is popular. But I would genuinely prefer that retail wow just gets better.
They said on stream they don’t want to play for a year to maybe win 20k , and chan doesn’t like retail at all, so they decided to not play.
They stated this before on stream. They don’t enjoy retail. They said AWC Shadowlands is not fun anymore and not worth their time to invest in it. They have more fun with TBC and make more money streaming that and winning tourneys there.
Their already world class players who competed at high levels with success before and they also mentioned that Shadowlands is the worst they have ever seen for competition skill and game wise.

playerbase of character archetype saturated with the fantasy of outplaying your meathead opponents in shambles at the prospect of being limited to winning games in which they accomplish significant outplays
my honest to god guess is because for the whole expansion (minus currently), lock has COMPARATIVELY been subpar to other classes and that’s what they main and why do that when they can be overpowered in TBC as far as I’ve heard.
