rank 14’s per week was already increased from 1 to 10 the first time around in classic, and anyone who wanted it was able to get it.
i got rank 14 when i shouldn’t have, there were just too many spots and not enough people who wanted it to fill them, i got it despite fighting against my entire server. had bracket boosting not been a thing i would never have made it.
I don’t believe your claim that the number of R14s on your server went from “1 to 10” in Classic. The number of R14s was percentage based on the pool size, so I really don’t know what you are talking about.
If you did have 10 R14s per week on your server, that just shows how broken the system was because of bracket boosting. On my medium pop Alliance PVP server, even with bracket boosting, we never had more than one R14 per week.
This also makes no sense since ranks are based on percentage, and if you were on a big PVP server with “10 Rank 14” spots per week with massive bracket boosting, all of those spots would be filled.
Makes no logical sense your server had bracket boosting and “not enough people who wanted it.” Bracket boosting is used when people want to get R14. When a large portion of the server get R14, the bracket boosting slows way down making it harder to rank.
All of these issues are precisely why the Classic PVP system with decay and bracket boosting needs to be fixed because it was constantly exploited.
Honestly, your description sounds like you were a bracket breaker, which explains your odd claims demonstrating that you don’t really understand how the system works.
my server mafia pretty much required anyone going for a bracket 12 and up to contribute a few hours of level 1’s to the pool, as well as cross server boosting and probably buying botters to boost.
i think we were barely high pop on netherwind at the time.
as broken as it was, it showed just how few people actually wanted to get rank 14 because it was so accessible and there were plenty of extra spots, i don’t think it’s necessary to raise the rates.
Agree that it should in no way be made ‘easier’ and the mt Everest analogy is a good one. My concern is the negative health impacts of sedentary lifestyle for 3 months. If there is one thing that could be tweaked it’s the ‘facedesk’ aspect of the R14 grind. Scroll up to see my post 11*
I would do the following, buy blue rank gear normally with no rank decay at all. Once you reach rank 11-14 you can do a long pvp based quest to get the right to buy epic items much like .5 quest but based on pvp. Because while people love the .5 quest as much as cheesing the pvp system for gear, they hate ranking and the need to either premade/account share/no life r14 requires. If they made a challenging system in spirit of a long quest chain while not have you compete against other players I believe that would be great, and a good way to kill not all but some premades.
This is based on how good the marshal/warlord gear is pre-aq.
Sitting on your butt playing a video game is not a healthy thing to do relative to moving and being active. So who gets to choose how much play time is too much? You? It’s best to let people make their own decisions as to how long they wish to play.
It’s not just people playing the game a ton. A lot of exploitation goes on like bracket boosting, either voluntary but most often paid with real money.
And the original system actually prevents people from playing. If it isn’t your turn to R14, then you have to stop/throttle your gameplay or you will be blackballed for bracket breaking.
Even when I was grinding R11, I had people whispering me to slow down/not break the weekly cap or I wouldn’t get into premades or groups.
It’s a system that has unhealthy effects beyond just one person’s decision to play as much as they want.
I do like the idea of maybe having no decay until R11, so people can get the blue gear and mount. Then, implement decay above R11?
I was a bracket breaker in OG Vanilla. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the attention. In WoW nobody can control your behavior but Blizzard. There is no leverage for anyone or any group to blackball anybody. If you let others set the rules of your behavior you have lost before the game has even begun.
Besides, by your argument we should ban guilds because of all the silly pressure they try to assert on people’s choice of spec.
Not making things up, just speaking from experience grinding PVP rank on three of the biggest PVP servers in Classic, Grobbulus, Fairbanks and Bigglesworth. Same story on all of them.
Breaking brackets in OG Vanilla is very different than Classic. Not only were cross-realm BGs implemented from the start, but everyone knew the meta with calculated caps and even spreadsheets.
If you didn’t play in a full premade, you had no chance to hit R13 or R14. If you broke the brackets, you didn’t get into a premade.
On top of that, breaking brackets is stupid because it is actually worse for everyone, including the bracket breaker. The fact that you did it to troll people and “enjoyed the attention” just demonstrates that you are an extreme outlier within the WoW community and must have some kind of personality disorder.
One major point of Classic+, in my opinion, should be to break the meta playstyle that exploded with Classic, from world buffs to the PVP system.
If you let anyone tell you how to play a video game, you are crazy. I play for fun and breaking brackets is fun. The emotional responses that occur are epic.
