It doesn’t happen often but some games you queue into there are simply to many dps or healers. The game should let you change your roll in 2 minutes of pregame/Preparation.
I thought you could already do this? For example I know for a fact that you can swap from DPS spec to tank spec in the starting cave (if you want to), and vice versa (tank spec to DPS spec).
As far as I know, they don’t let DPS players swap to healer spec… for some strange reason
That’s correct. Regardless of whether or not we feel our team has enough or too many healers, having the ability to switch would result in disparate healer counts between the two teams.
We’d get shenanigans like DPS queueing as every role for fastest possible queues then swapping to DPS, leaving your team with fewer healers than the enemy. That would be a major frustration for as long as healers continue to be this essential.
I didn’t know that you get faster queues as healer, I kinda thought that was why some teams get 6 heals and the other team gets 1 heal.
This is a terrible idea. Here’s why, let’s say alliance has 1 healer and horde has 1 healer. Within one minute into the game, 3 ultra geared shadow priests will say, “Hey, let’s go holy so we get a guaranteed win.” They go holy and now you have 4 heals on horde and 1 on alliance. This will end up being a nightmare!
That isn’t necessarily the case, but queueing as every role that your class is able to would certainly ensure that you’d get the fastest queue you can.
You’d also get nonsense like matchmaking zoning two healers in on each team, then a couple of DPS on one side would swap heals resulting in one team having many more healers than the other.
Better to keep that consistent; the current system does that fine imo.
If the dps are bad you’ll still lose tho
I mean, you’re not wrong. One team having a lot more heals than the other is just one thing of many that can lead to a blowout match. But if we can control for it (we can), then we should.
So? The flip-side is also true: I’ve zoned into Alliance epics where we only got 1-2 healers to Horde’s 6-8 healers.
The issue is brought up in bg chat, and right away pug Shadow Priests, Balance Druids, Ret Pallys, etc offer to swap to healer spec (to help out the team). But… they can’t, what a dumb restriction
I get the “potential for abuse” angle/argument, but at the same time we can’t ignore that imbalanced healer counts are a fairly common occurrence in random bgs and they DO happen.
How does it work if you queue as both healer and DPS but you aren’t speced for the role you’re assigned? I always queue as one or the other but wondered how that worked. I assume you’re automatically respeced but can you swap talents and gear?
What does my mobility ability have to do with dps or healing?
Check your mobility privilege!
Lmao, I think I saw you the other day in a losing AV I was afking in a safe spot by the Alliance base, to avoid being GY-farmed with the rest of the group.
I remember I was taking a quick glance at the map, and I happened to mouse over a “Herclol” yellow/Rogue dot running around in the south
Immediately what came to mind was that “Herc” Rogue from the forums, but I wasn’t able to verify and thought it was a different player (name was familiar, but didn’t match the “Herc” from the forums).
But seeing you post under this forum as “Herclol”, it all makes sense now.

I was just roaming south trying to farm some kills while watching our team getting one-shot by Drek because we left two towers up. Good times.

If the instance accepts you as a healer, you’ll find yourself in your healing spec when you zone in- even if you were in your other role when you took the queue.
They used to let players freely change specs during prep, but that led to bgs with significant healer imbalances.
Dps would queue for the healer role thinking it would give them faster queues, but then play as dps. Some players would switch to heals to give their team a big healer advantage.
That’s why Blizzard started locking roles inside bgs.
This is exactly what I said in an post above (near the top), and ppl were lke, “No it doesnt work that way!” Yes it does! We have been down this path before. All it leads too is a giant nightmare!
