Changes to Purchasable Game Time Options

Honestly I think they really want to kill the game 100% by the bone head choices made in the last few years. I guess Covid did more than made people sick it made some of them gloriously stupid as well…

Why did they do this? Because they want more money.

Why they want more money? Because Bobby wants another yacht, jet, or stocks😂

The people defending them would defend them giving out blank discs in blank empty collector’s edition boxes or shutting down half or more of the servers.

As some who has purchased their game exclusively in 30 day Game Time increments for years, this is an unexpected, unpleasant, and jarring change*.

I really hope Blizzard will consider reverting this change.

I understand that I can subscribe, then cancel, and purchase on a monthly basis, but that still adds a needless step to the process.

I just really don’t understand how this is a positive change for the WoW community.

*edited to change “changing” to “change.”

That could weird, but I am goin to explain why I dont like suscriptions. A year ago, my dog suffer a problem in his backbone, the cost of the medical surgery is a lot more than I can afford. In that situacion I was stressful and I forgot to cancel all my suspcription at time. That just increased my frustration. Since that moment, I am paying my gametime buying 1 month instead of to activate a suscription, I dont know when I would be in another situation like that and I just dont want to suffer something like that again.

So I want to say thank you, for force us to pay a suscription, nobody ask for this. I think that I am going to leave this game when my month ends, can’t see the reason to limit your pay options and I just dont want to have another suscripction.

Wow. You are just BEGGING to lose your player base at this point. Like this is equal to getting on your hands and knees and crawling up to each individual customer, crying and pleading them to stop playing your game. This is so blatantly anti consumer it’s beyond me how even the most hardcore blizz s imps can defend this. This might actually be what gets me to stop playing the game. I’ve been bored of the game in the past, but never have I felt like I’m being actively financially barred from it.

Listen, Blizzard, I don’t know if you know this but people actually WANT to enjoy your game. Please stop making it so difficult for us. I love Azeroth, I love the communities I’ve found. I don’t WANT to leave.

This is more specific. Thank you.

No one should defend this change. Period.

Lack of options for game time payment is not better.

A more expensive option for game time is not better.

People that used to gift 30 days of game time will not gift 60 days.

People that use bnet balance to purchase game time have less options now too.

People that used 30 day game time FOR ANY reason now have to pay more or pay in a way they cannot or prefer not to.

Blizzard - this is so blatantly a money grab that I’m done with you. I’ll be un subbing the rest of my family shortly. You lost 3 subs on this one.

Well now we have no choice.

Gotta get that +1 post! Doesn’t matter how condescending I am!!! Lololol!

Did I do that right?

Where can I downvote this please?

This could put a strain on my budget honestly.

Previously would pay monthly sub, and would be able to farm my next wow token quickly if I was falling a bit short, so being forced to pay a full two months in advance, when I might have had to only pay one month before getting enough gold to pay taken…

Yeah this is going to hurt me a little bit I am sorry to say, and $30 might not seem like much but when people are on strained budgets it can make a LOT of difference. This could mean the difference between many of my friends coming back or not.

Please reconsider this change, and allow us to keep paying monthly 30 day sub fees.

Thumbs down.

Game is in such a bad state they want to lock people in for longer periods. They keep making it easier for people to quit wow.

I think this is one issue where we ALL need to come together as one as a community and say to Blizz that they REALLY need to reconsider this issue, this is one of the most stupid things they’ve done, I mean you pay a monthly sub that’s how it’s always been and always should be, people can spend 6 months on a sub if they want a cool looking mount and whatnot, but…

Yeah, this decision is not a good look. I mean this might result in me walking away…

Have you not heard of currency conversion? People who live in other countries have to convert their currency into USD to pay for the game time. Depending on the exchange rate, it can jack up the prices of buying US goods and services immensely. eg as an Australian, I’ve bought things from America and had it cost double what it would cost someone in the US because the exchange rate at the time was making it so that it took 2 AUD to equal 1USD.

I cant even use the remaining balance in my Blizzard account to buy game time without spending an additional $19 USD on the mandatory 2 months. Before this change I would only have had to spend roughly $7 USD (including my Blizzard Balance) to purchase 1 month of game time.

“We recently conducted a review on the available services in all currencies. Based on this, we have decided to alter the available Game Time options in the Blizzard Shop.”

Since those payment options were being reviewed, then you’d have stats about which Game Time options were the least/most bought by players (prompting the changes on your end). Guess those stats will be unavailable for us to see (I can understand why), but some information would’ve provided us with way better context about why the payment changes were implemented. Some have written here that the 30-day Game Time removal was to discourage botters, but without any official explanation, it’s just hypothetical.

You know, when my Internet provider wants to change their pricing on Internet plans, we get a letter in the mail informing us of those changes and when they’ll occur. Same thing goes for TV pricing plans being changed or channels being added/removed from our bundle. And when there’s a pricing change for my mobile phone plan, I get a text detailling those changes months in advance. Knowing in advance helps budgeting accordingly. So there’s no surprise that there’s a massive backlash from people who were planning to use the removed Game Time options and got blindsided when announcing effective-immediately changes to payment options, that do impact how much you pay for your gaming time if you stick with Game Time. Had those changes be announced earlier with a known date for the removal of these payment options (like how you announced pricing changes in Brazil and Russia that will be implemented April 26th), players wouldn’t have been caught off-guard and could’ve planned accordingly.

Subs aren’t changing. The only thing this change affects is the game time that people can buy on the blizzard store, so if you used the blizzard store to buy game time, the only option left to you is to buy the 60 day option.

But I get you, I’m on a tight income myself. My situation is worsened by the fact that I’m Australian so I now have to find $40 in an already tight income if I want to play WoW. Some months I just don’t have $40 to spare and I refuse to jump through the “sub, then cancel, rinse and repeat” hoop.

Yes. Here in Brazil the exchange rate is from BR $ 6 to US $ 1. Our local payment method jumped from BR $ 23 to BR $ 40 Subs, and from BR $ 23 reais 30 days (method used by 99% of players for country’s economic issues) to BR $ 89 (60 days). This is absurd. For a country where the minimum wage is BR $ 4.58 / hour (US $ 0.76 / hour) … IT’S A LOT!

PS: Subs in local currency just started to work few months ago.
PS2: Poor ppl play free games like LoL or FreeFire because their bills (power, gas) don’t even reach R$ 50… living with much less than the minimum wage.
