Changes that could help Enhancement shaman

Disclaimer: some numbers of the spells would most likely need to be tuned

Baseline changes

  • Stormstrike now has two charges.
  • Elemental Blast (level 15 talent row) is now baseline spell, cooldown changed from 12sec to 45sec, buff changed from 10 sec to 20 sec.
  • Wind rush totem (level 10 talent row) is now baseline.
  • Hailstorm (level 45 talent row) is now baseline.

Talent changes

  • Level 15:

  • Lashing Flames : Lashing flames reworked, Lava lash now causes the target to erupt in lava, causing the target hit by lava lash to instantly take 100% damage of the flameshock duration and causes Flameshock to spread to the 3 closest target.

  • Forceful winds : Windfury causes each successive Windfury attack within 30 sec (changed from 15 sec to 30 sec), to increase the damage of Windfury by 80% (changed from 50% to 80%) stacking up to 5 times.

  • Elemantal Blast replaced by Stormkeeper (Level 45 talent) Stormkeeper is now a passive skill, stormstrike has a 25% change to increase the damage of the next lightning bolt or chain lightning by 75% can stack up to 3 times, 10 second duration. Damage also stacks with maelstrom weapon.

  • Level 25:

  • Ice Strike : Strike up to 6 enemies within 8 yards with an icy blade, dealing (125% of Attack power) Frost damage and snaring them by 50% for 6 sec. Successful Ice Strikes reset the cooldown of Frost Shock spells.

  • Level 35:

  • Hailstorm (now baseline) replaced by Earthquake .
    Earthquake : Causes the earth within 8 yards of the target location to tremble and break, dealing Physical damage over 6 sec and sometimes knocking down enemies, 40 second cooldown.

  • Fire Nova : Erupt a burst of fiery damage from all targets affected by your Flame Shock, dealing (25% of Attack power) Fire damage to Flame Shock targets and an additional (8% of Attack power) fire damage to up to 6 targets within 8 yds of your Flame Shock targets.

  • Level 40:

  • Wind Rush Totem (now baseline) replaces by Wind wall(new)
    Wind wall: Creates an 8-yard radius wall of wind that envelops all targets in the location for 8 seconds. Targets inside Wind wall cannot see anything outside of the wall, any damage caused to a target inside the wind wall will cause it to break. 1-minute cooldown.
    Wind wall (pvp): Creates wall of wind that envelops the enemy in the location for 8 seconds. Targets inside Wind wall cannot see anything outside of the wall, any damage caused to a target inside the wind wall will cause it to break. 1-minute cooldown (works like Freezing trap)

  • Level 45:

  • Crashing storm: Crash Lightning also electrifies the ground, leaving an electrical field behind which damages enemies within it for [7 * (2.688% of Attack power)] Nature damage over 8 sec (change from 6 sec to 8sec) and increases all lightning damage done by 15% while in the electrified ground.

  • Stormkeeper (now level 15 talent) replaced by Earthen Spike (was level 50 talent now 45)

  • Level 50:

  • Elemental spirits: Reduces the cooldown of Feral Spirit by 30 sec and causes your Feral Spirits to now cleave up to 6 targets (new) and be imbued with Fire, Frost, or Lightning, enhancing your abilities.

  • Earthen spike (now level 45 talent) replaced by Fury of Air (new)
    Fury of Air:
    Creates a vortex of wind 8 yards around you, dealing [9 * (5.25% of Attack power) * ((Attack power + Offhand attack power) * 2 / 3) / Attack power] Nature damage every 1 sec to enemies caught in the storm, and slowing them by 30% for 3 sec. While fury of air is active all melee attack hit up to 6 targets. 15 sec duration, 1min cooldown

  • Ascendance: Transform into an Air Ascendant for 15 sec, immediately dealing (250% of Attack power) Nature damage to any enemy within 8 yds, reducing the cooldown and cost of Stormstrike by 66%, and transforming your auto attack and Stormstrike into Wind attacks which bypass armor and have a 30 yd range. While in ascendance Windfury procs chance is increased to 80% (new).

EQ for enhance has been an argument I have made since the addition of Earthquake.

I also think Stormkeeper should just be a reworked Stormblast

Stormblast - 3 min cd, X% mana - 40 yards

  • Shoot a blast of lightning out in a straight line, dealing X nature damage to enemies caught in the blast, and increasing the critical strike chance of your lightning bolt, chain lightning, Crash Lightning, and Stormstrike by Y% for Z seconds.

Keep Stormkeeper as Elemental only — giving a legion artifact ability from one spec to another is absolute trash design

Not sure how I feel about Earthquake as a 40s CD talent. I could see it as baseline for an AoE option with Elemental Assault while Hailstorm / Fire Nova are talented for additional AoE utility however. I feel inclined to trade something with Elemental rather than just stealing their abilities too lol.

I do like the Flame Shock consumption idea, though it might run counter to Fire Nova and I might suggest keeping the (mini) Flame Shock Spreads to baseline Lava Lash so you are not tying multiple talent rows together (e.g. you could still choose Forceful winds / Fire Nova without feeling crippled).

I might be missing something, but what’s the use case you have in mind behind wind wall other than a non-curse instant variant of hex? A sort of reverse AoE interrupt?

In m+ it could possibly help to skip some packs, to help with diversity and not always having to rely on a rogues shroud and also to be used as an AoE interrupt or to help with kiting.

Oh I see, you could use it like an AoE sooth that’s true. I thought it might move with you at first, but that sounds a lot like shroud itself.

no think of it as a sort of AoE cyclone, not as good as shroud but can be used in more than one way, if you want to skip 1 pack in particular you can Wind wall them and move to the next pack.

That’s pretty neat, haven’t seen that suggestion before.

Regarding Ice Strike, I don’t know if it needs another AoE component, but I would absolutely love to see the talent include second charge of shocks to avoid the feeling of “only press ice strike just before you need to double flame/frost shock”.

yeah I understand, Ice strike just isn’t intriguing atm on the beta, feels like a talents that people wont ever use over Stormflurry. Making it AoE would somewhat give us a choice between Ice strike, hothand and stromflurry, over simply it only being a shock CD refresher.

There is the potential for the following at 10 MSW (though it should just be at 5 if Stormbringer was “fixed”):
Stormbringer, Frost Shock, Earthen Spike, Elemental Blast, Ice Strike, Frost Shock, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Bolt, Stormstrike, something, Frost Shock.

which actually does a bit of sustained high damage on a controlled 1m cycle over about 10 seconds starting from the first Frost Shock with a fair amount of haste. That’s still basically just the shock refresh mechanic and might only see use in PvP or priority single target adds that match that cycle time.

The other two definitely win out in sustained damage though.

yeah that would be crazy burst for sure, but you would also need to take into consideration the GCD for all those spells

it is, it’s maybe 9 GCD worth, but a little hard to see coming with the lack of stormbringer / earthen spike animations. The 10s duration on Earthen spike makes it a little tight if you get stunned; you can swap Earthen Spike and the first Frost shock in that sequence for an extra GCD before they realize what’s up (or play with an Arena alert weakaura).

Thinking about the Lashing Flames suggestion, I wonder if consuming only 50% of the remaining dot at instant damage would be sufficient (Flame shock does do roughly a Stormstrike worth of damage over 18s after all). This way it would leave the dot on the main target and wouldn’t feel like an anti pattern with Fire Nova.

The numbers I put are fictive, just to get the idea out there. But for sure that 100% could be over tuned. You are right the synergy with Fire nova would be better if the Dot isn’t completely consumed.

I feel kind of bad wanting Earthquake on Enhancement. Feels like the last cool thing Elementalist has. But, it is my favorite ability in the game! Down for it.

I tried to change it up so that it’s not exactly like the Ele earthquake, having it be a CD for enhance would make it somewhat different from Ele. You would also have other choice in that talent row that are good options for AoE so that earthquake wouldn’t be the cookie cutter build.

I pitched the idea of a magma field like Consecration (ok ok, its basically a recolored player based earthquake). It was intended to help interact with Fire Nova / flame shocks, but simple is best, such as the above suggestions, when it comes to Lava Lash / Flame Shock interaction. It would at least scale with mastery however.

i think it’s more likely that you see feral lunge as a baseline mobility skill than wind rush

We already have sundering and earthen spike.

The shaman slaps his weapons into the ground and creates an earthquake, placed on the ground centered on the shaman.

It would make so much sense for a melee rather than Fire Nova (I love it, but in its current version its so garbage).
