The honor curve is bad and encourages bad game play and bad behaviors that drags down the overall quality of PvP and battlegrounds. During phase 5, when raid gear finally catches up to the r12+ rewards, the structure of PvP gear rewards should be changed to the TBC system. The honor curve can stay, the ranking can stay, but honor becomes a currency and PvP gear is purchased with honor rather than locked behind a rank.
There’s still an honor grind for gear, but it’s not bogged down by an honor curve that could have players grinding honor for months and never see their desired rank/gear.
“But, then more people will have the stuff.”
Yep.
“But what about people who already did the grind.”
They got it first.
“But what about people who are actively ranking.”
They’ll have more honor to spend and they’ll get the gear first.
Honestly I’d be ok with this. And to be fair, it was part of vanilla.
The honor system was changed in the Before the Storm update, which was 2.# and was not Vanilla. However, I would also be okay with the change once Naxx is out.
I would have supported you before Classic launched, but now… not so much. I don’t like the vanilla honor system, I have gone so far as to say it is immoral… but they went with it and people invested hundreds or thousands of hours grinding out those ranks. It is just too unfair to yank the carpet out from under them after all that investment.
It won’t change that they had the gear first. It won’t change that the same gear made a larger impact on their game play because they got it first and were using it earlier during a raid tier that couldn’t offer comparable rewards. That doesn’t suddenly change because players receive the gear later.
Let the competitive ranking exist, but untie rewards from that endless hamster wheel and make it a time investment grind with a clear end, like everything else in the game.
