I think that subscription-based games (WoW included) have no right to charge extra money for cosmetic rewards (Blizzard in-game shop). The Vulpine Familiar is one of the coolest looking mounts Blizzard has developed. Imagine if they made the mount a world pvp reward to encourage PVP (red version for horde). Or, why not give that mount as a reward for a difficult achievement, or, perhaps, as a drop off of mythic G’huun (seriously, no mythic mount…)?
Instead of being encouraged to continue to play the game, and, in turn, pay more subscription fees, every time a new store mount or pet is released, I feel a little more betrayed. And those who buy these mounts only add fuel to the fire.
I remember back in Wrath when the Sparkle Pony arrived to the store, and blizzard was hit with a lot of heat. There were more people with my opinion back then. I think over the years we’ve been taught to accept the fact that the “best” mounts are locked behind a paywall.
I’ve never played WoD, but I recall there being controversy surrounding a store mount released in the middle of a large content drought. Most of the mounts available to be earned in WoD were dozens of boar and wolf recolors, so I can see the frustration.
I fear it’s too late for the community to do anything about this. For the future, keep in mind that we vote with our wallets. If no one were to buy the store mounts, maybe those mounts would make it into the game as a reward for playing rather than a reward for spending more money.

i’d have prefered it to be a promotional mount like the flamesaber where you get it from playing another blizzard game or something which is free and encourages people to try their other games if they haven’t
still bought it tho, can’t resist fox

Not your money being spent. Not your problem.

I’m just going to quit reading right there.

Actually, the ‘best’ mounts, are locked behind high-end PvP and PvE achievements.

Why would we want to change your mind ? It seems like a pointless waste of time since the store isn’t going anywhere anyway.
There are already mounts for ‘difficult’ achievements. It is okay mounts can be gained in different ways. This one requires you to earn a little gold to buy it but also is one of the few that gives you an option if you so desire to straight out buy it.
Also, since I disagree with you, I will just keep on buying the store mounts with the gold I earn.

I have been adding nothing but logs to that fire. It smells nicer!

TBH most of the “best” mounts are just earned in game. The cosmetics on the shop really aren’t a problem. I do have a fundamental disagreement with the ability to buy gold. With the high gold price of mounts and the high material cost of consumables this expansion I can’t help but think this was at least in part motivated by the WoW Token.

Key word: Cosmetic
This is not like Battlefront 2 where you HAD to buy loot crates to actually progress the in game shop for mounts is cosmetic and who cares. You don’t have to spend real world money no one is forcing you to buy a shop mount (no matter how F’ing awesome that fox mount is) also if you farm gold you can just buy it with WoW gold converting it into tokens.
There are many other mounts which require skill to get like the ranked pvp mounts, or time consuming like the lucid nightmare mount, and those which require sheer luck like invincible in game.
Also be thankful it isn’t WoD when just one patch the only thing we got was a store mount.

was it the kfc fried chicken logs? I like the smell of fried chicken, but these scare me…

Also – how does the creator of a thing intended to be sold individually for use with another product of theirs not have a right to sell it?
I should talk to my local car dealership about this. They don’t have a right to lease me a car and then charge more for back-up camera, GPS, etc.

This is not a good argument. It is in fact his money being spent as he has purchased the game out right and pays a monthly required fee. He should have access to the game and all of its features because of this. Forcing someone to pay additional money on top of more money is unethical.
Even in almost every mobile cash grab game you can earn something over time, or have the option to pay for it outright. Blizzard on the other hand just says, “pay us more”.

This should probably be considered a fallacy. If they didn’t have the shop, the mounts simply wouldn’t exist. However, addon sales and microtransactions are the present in mobile, console, and PC/Mac. They aren’t going away.
Vote with your wallet. Don’t buy from the shop. The people who enjoy these extras will also vote.

It’s a mount. If he wants a special mount they can go do some pve or pvp. Caring about what other people are spending money on is dumb

You don’t pay a monthly subscription for content on your car though… This logic is flawed. Are there any smart people on the forums schilling for Blizzard? And don’t say your monthly lease is the sub fee because that’s just you paying off your loan for not buying the car out right.
No, it isn’t. Especially since this isn’t forced.
All of its features, eh? So, by extension, let’s just give everyone Mythic raid gear, fully titanforged, because they pay a sub.
It’s your argument that isn’t a good one, bub.
Lol, do you not know what a lease is? Hilarious.

It’s, as you say, strictly cosmetic.
Putting it in the store makes it available to everyone. Locking it behind something like Mythic Ghuun would keep it from 99% of the player base. That’s your bright idea?
The things you buy in store have no effect on in game play. They’re there for fun, if you have the coin. Leave it at that imo
