Change in Leadership at Blizzard

Looks like J Allan Brack is out.

Now we just need Ion and Danuser to go.

We just need the writing team to go and be replaced with people that:

  • Are somewhat talented
  • Are ready to treat all races fairly, even those that they don’t like (which the current writing team seems to be very bad at looking at Night Elves for example)
  • Actually know anything about the Warcraft Universe and its characters, and are able to keep characters consistent for longer than a single patch without doing a complete 180 in the next patch

Put this on J Allen Brack’s tombstone: You think you work here, but you don’t.

Ion yes, Danuser no.

Kind of weird that the two new co-leads are both relatively new to Blizzard, guess they’re being serious about trying to change directions.

Reverse that.

I think they’re in the perfect middle ground of having been recently employed before this scandal happened and having experience leading outside companies. They haven’t been entrenched in Blizzard’s culture and come from successful and appreciated companies. Vicarious Visions is a great studio and the Xbox has been able to stand on its own. Blizzard will probably be taking on the work ethic that VV has had. When this controversy has settled, I think we’ll be getting quality patches sooner and more than we have been.

No way, Ion is responible for the terrible gameplay and systems.

Danuser is responsible for a story direction I personally enjoy.

Wow, that’s an early announcement. I guess trying to damage control before their earnings call (which is today).

I think Jason Schriers tweet sums this up best at who really needs to be held accountable more than anyone else:

Titles mean a lot in the corporate world. Until 2018, Mike Morhaime was CEO. When Brack took over, he was president. Now, Oneal and Ybarra are described as “co-leaders.” A clear glimpse at who’s really in charge: Bobby Kotick

You’re sort of the minority around those parts.

Yeah i figured as much with the reporting and bans.

But seriously, Danuser seems like he’s not at all involved. He participated in the walkout and he personally hired female writers in the last year, so I think he’s one of “the good guys” i trust him and I trust Robert Brooks.

I think this is something good. A big change at the top while handing the reigns to people who might have relatively clean hands.

As far as the man who resigned - I don’t know if he had anything to do with all the wrong doing, or allowing it, or how far removed he was. I don’t want innocent people losing their livelihoods because of the misdeeds of others. But it was a good gesture on all sides.

Having said all that, I would be content with rooting out the people directly involved, and those who had power and allowed it to go on. I would not use this as an excuse to demand new writers or devs based on creative opinions. Ion, Danuser, and Golden aren’t my favorites, but they also don’t seem to be involved in any of the recent claims.

TBF the majority just kinda direct their rage of whomever they’re told to. If you made several threads insisting that Joe Biden was personally responsible for the current story direction then most people here would adopt that opinion.

It’s not that we’re all total rubes or anything, but the actual experience of playing the game doesn’t have any author names attached to it, so the only way to absorb that information is second-hand.

these forums are prone to “outrage culture” if you don’t hate everything about this story, this game or this company, you are in the minority.

Is it normal to have co-leaders?

Ask the romans!

It’s not. This was probably done because they wanted to pick someone ASAP but have two qualified individuals who they weren’t sure who to pick so they went with both.

ok. Its nice to have leadership that actually play the game. other than that. Meh.

It wont impact the story much.

or the game.

The dude that drip feeds story like its a weekly episodic series? That guy?
Ooof talk about a hot take here.

Well you are a Sylvanas die hard fanboy so I guess that makes sense.
I am sure if she got killed like the criminal she is you would not be such a fan of the story no more.
