Change Eclipse

Right now in Season of Discovery, you have the following Eclipse:

  • Starfire increases the critical strike chance of your next two Wraths by 30%, and Wrath reduces the cast time of your next Starfire by 1.0 sec, both effects stacking up to 4 charges. Both spells also gain 70% chance at all times to not lose casting time when you take damage.

This is already ten times better than the current eclipse system we get. It gives benefits but without feeling awkward switching between them like it does now. There is the ‘balance’ between them but it does not force us into any eclipse just to get a damage bonus of some type for our astral spells.

Some Scenarios:

  • If in a dungeon, we usually start with aoe and finish off a higher health target or leftovers, so the wrath gets a bonus from the prior aoe casts of starfire. In pvp, similarly, we have a group we attack and then switch to the single target coming at us.

  • Conversely, we single target a priority target in a dungeon and then get speed built up with our starfires so we can fire off a few fast casts of them to finish of the aoe extras. In pvp, it could work the same or it would even be nice to cast starfire for single target because it would not be slow af - as we are often only interrupted on nature spells bc people know we can’t do ish with our arcane.

I’m a fan of this approach. It still makes us think of what we’re doing but without the silly 2 rando casts to get into what we actually need and to make our spenders hit harder. If I have energy built up, just let me use my spenders without penalty.

Make this happen in War Within, Blizz. Eclipse is currently NOT fun in retail. Kthanks!

They have changed eclipse basically every expansion since the dawn of time.

Personally, I liked the BFA empowerment system the best. It’s not super complicated but it got us to at least cast different spells in a flexible rotation.

The current eclipse just isn’t fun. Cast two spells to start doing full damage isn’t complicated or interesting.

Agreed. When I saw what Eclipse was in SoD, first thought was “why the hell is this not the system in retail?”. Literally what keeps me from playing Balance.

Exactly. That type of thing would be better. All abilities are still impactful but if you learn to weave spells on different targets you get a better payoff.

Yes please just go back to bfa boomy or make it like sod boomy wrath buffs starfire, starfire buffs wrath sod boomy feels so much better then retail its unreal also rework the balance druid talnet tree its so bad we have talents that buff wrath/starfire but havnt been used ALL xpac astral communion why is this here still

this is the most reworked spec in the game you have tried about every thing you could think of i personaly pref legion balance druid it felt the best to me
but since the rework in shadowlands has been pointing balance druid in the wrong direction

That does seem better than what we have now. I’m not a fan of Eclipse (the empowerment system from BFA was less punative).

I still prefer BFA boomy to be honest I’m getting tired of the constant eclipse system’s.

every one is sick of eclipse system no one liked it and every rework that added it had feed back against it and every feed back removing it praised blizzard boomkin has way to much ramp time in M+ and pvp

i loved bfa boomkin in raid/pvp only thing it needed in M+ is starfall buffs because we did very poor aoe dmg

eclipses dont feel good also having a mastery thats only half active vs other dps master having full value with no constraints gimps the spec

Legion balance with baseline moon spells is the best the spec ever was.

They reintroduced Eclipses with Shadowlands because they were doing their garbage Wrath Classic nostalgia stunts while rolling back most progress Legion did.

Yep eclipse system is trash ive played boomy since wotlk its always been awful

Boomy was my favorite for a long time, but ever since sl I just don’t enjoy it.

I try, but it’s just not as fun as it once was and they keep messing with it in these awkward directions that seemingly no one wants.

I went on a straight protest against it when it was announced eclipse was coming back. Literally every post on the forums i was in trying to point out all the downsides. I remember there was this one druid that was always against me preaching how eclipses where the best , seemed like some blizzard employee. The character was deleted soon as it went live lmao.

Tin foil hat much?

But on topic, we had that kind of mechanic before, it wasn’t good. You’d end up casting wrath’s in AoE and SF in ST even more often then now.

Being 2 casts away from whatever avatar state you wanna be in better. Not good, but better than that.

Imho, the thing they need to fix the most is ramp up time. There’s nothing fun about needing 10-12 globals to get your damage started.

And having to place starfall on an area was not fun to do.

I hate the current eclipse in retail. I miss the WoD one.

The only thing I remember about WoD is that shooting stars and star surge procs were super awesome. I don’t remember what eclipse mechanic there was. Was it the meter that naturally swayed back and forth and we had the spell that sped up the process?

Just hang out a little while, as sure as seasons change, they will change how eclipse works too.

Let’s hope that this very active conversation gets their attention. One issue they’ve had is that they rework us first and then forget about us. Let’s hope they take a moment, choose the right approach, and make it fun, rewarding - not punishing, and certainly not overly complicated.

Yea, going by past experience, asking for eclipse to be good is sorta like asking for rain. You can talk until your blue in the face, but it will rain when it wants, and you never know if you’ll be happy with it until it happens.

They need to treat the Eclipse system like a buff to our Wrath and Starfire spells, rather than a “you must be in Eclipse state at all times to do full/respectable damage” like it is now.

It feels terrible going back and forth, being forced to fire off opposite spells that do wet noodle DPS anyway. It’s too much ramp up time and feels monotonous after a while.

My point is Wrath and Starfire should do decent damage on their own outside of Eclipse, then the Eclipse proc will come in and buff each spell even more, and also give players the agency to choose what to cast.
