Change Demo Nether Portal to Shards consumed

Everyone hates this wonky setup. It feels so dumb to be weaving in a random soulburn and frantically casting 1 shard HoG’s.

A simple QOL change would be to just tie demons summoned to sum of shards consumed vs shard casts. Why haven’t you made this change yet, Blizz?

Threads exist on this topic going to back to early bfa it seems like. There was a large period where people seemed to mostly forget about the ability because it a was useless talent compared to decon.

Either way, i don’t think they will change it to be affected by number of shards consumed since it doesn’t change up our playstyle at all. They doubled down on the interaction in DF beta when they altered the original nerzhuls volition to fit the shard spending event interaction, instead of how it was functioning.

I’d like to see it improved. Maybe let Shadowbolt or Dbolt grant an extra shard during it or something to fit how it currently plays, while still getting 3 shard hogs out. We’ll see when they make another pass on warlock trees, which could be a while I’d imagine.

That’s disappointing. It’s so freaking clunky with the procs and the random soulburn cast, etc. I’m trying to unlearn queuing up next spell (shadow bolt) to wait and see if I get a proc first and it’s just awkward. I often end up having to cancel the shadowbolt in favor of a demon bolt or another HoG. It’s just a really terrible flow that could be significantly improved by just tieing the summoned demons to number of shards consumed during the NP window.

This is quite the issue. If Hand of Gul’dan was instant during Nether Portal, we could handle the procs much more easily. We are already heavily punished by movement during the window.

The other problem is that we need to use soulburn to maximize it’s output. I don’t believe pure utility should need to be expended for damage, but that’s where we are.

It still baffles me that they fixed the Soul Burn cheese instead of actually addressing why people were doing it.

Along with the nerzhuls change, that’s essentially twice now in a handful of months that they have 100% looked at portal and said, “nah we’re good. Let’s just change the other thing.”

yeah without instant casts the cap of 20 on the buff for the pitlord gets ridiculous to reach.
Maybe not just HoG, but imagine that while Nether Portal was active, all of your spells became instant cast. (since it doesn’t seem likely they’ll change NP’s consumption style anytime soon)

If they don’t change NP to per shard spent then they should at least make it a minimum 20 second duration. ANY movement during the ability and it’s damage is severely dropped, and for a 3 minute cool down that is punishing.
