I tried asking in the Professions board but crickets. Checking to see if anyone here knows…
I am currently a potion master in alchemy, but I want to switch to elixir master. I know how you used to be able to do this, but things have changed.
A week ago (before Dragonflight Pre-patch) I noticed a little red x or whatever next to “potion master” in my profession book to let me drop it. I wish I would have done it then, because after the Dragonflight pre-patch dropped, that has gone away, and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to drop potion master to go get elixir master in the latest update. Can we just no longer switch?
I know the UI for professions has changed significantly, so maybe I am just missing it.
Side note: I did the potion master quest during the original 1-300 grind of alchemy standing in Stormwind. I thought maybe I could talk to the SW trainer who gave me the quest to unlearn it and pick up the quest for elixir master instead, but that does not work.
Thanks for any help!
Do not click the red button it will delete your profession, go to your trainer and switch to flask master. That is all that needs to be done this way you wouldn’t lose old recipes.

Like I said, though, I went to the trainer. They didn’t have anything to say to me. The training window just opened up, but of course I have nothing new to train. But there’s no dialogue or option to change mastery.

If the trainer doesn’t give a new quest or options to change mastery, AND it’s not in the spellbook as an option to drop that specific mastery… I have no idea how to do this now.
Wait for DF’s release. Anything Profession related to DF is not yet available.
Prepatch didnt cover professions. Reagent Bag for the 5th Bag slot is not yet available too.
Good advice. Let’s hope they put it back in so we can switch with the new expansion
I have a question. The question is why? Why do you wanna change it? Alchemy mastery hasn’t been relevant since at least Legion.

There is no mastery for this expansion. DF adds new mastery when you hit skill level 25.

I’m making a lot of things for my guild, and thought it would be nice to proc the occasional extra. We tend to use more elixirs that persist through death, and those tend to take more mats, so proccing a few extra elixirs would be nice. Not a huge deal or a deal breaker.
That works on current stuff? That sounds broken. In BFA with the alchemy tool incpind proc like six flasks from one. I could have procced even more had I gone through the trouble of leveling classic alchemy? That doesn’t sound right. That actually sounds unfair and broken.
That’s not a thing in SL.
It does not.

Good cause that’s something to make a fuss over if it did.
Each expansion had its own version. There was mastery back in the day, then there was the star system in different expansions, but SL did not add these at all.

Right and that along with a super important herb only being available in maldraxxus made alchemy kinda awful this time around.

Imagine if they had limited anchor weed to only nazmir. Nightmare right?
The amount of circling Maldraxxus and Revendreth I had to do made me want to hurt myself. LOL

How could you even keep ahead of the legion of Druid owl robots
I’ve been gone for a few years. When I last played, you leveled up alchemy 1-300 in classic, then you’d venture into the expansions and level there. Along the way you’d get a quest to either choose potion master or elixir master. Whichever you chose meant you had a chance to proc an additional potion or elixir when crafting, which was helpful.
I recently leveled alchemy on a fresh character, starting with the 1-300 grind. When presented with the quest I chose potion master. In my spellbook the tooltip when I hover over potion master says: “Allows an alchemist to sometimes create an additional potion when brewing certain potions”
I don’t know what’s “unfair” about it. The tooltip isn’t specific enough, though it sounds like the specialization hasn’t actually affected the last expansion or two, and I was not aware of that. Which means mastery doesn’t really matter at this point when crafting Shadowlands potions. I specifically remember it working through at least WotLK.
They stopped it in legion when they added the ranking system.
