Chances of a FP2 conversion at the 20 year mark?

What is the chance that WoW goes F2P at the 20 year mark? I’m gonna go with 50/50, here. I know that sounds wishy washy, but 2 expansions ago, I would have said there was a 10% chance, maybe.

20 years seems like a good time to really start reaching for the cash. They already have a pretty robust cash shop with services in place and I can’t help but get this feeling that their numbers keep shrinking from one expansion to the next and WoW just isn’t the cash cow it used to be.

They’re focusing more and more on mobile gaming. They also seem more prone to abandoning expansions since 2014. Now Dragonflight is sounding a bit, um… barren, in terms of “cool new features!”. Not to mention the general lack of excitement over the last couple of expansions seems to be really hitting the Dragonflight announcement hard.

HA! Knowing blizzard and this community, I would say that’s highly unlikely.

Until there is a massive fallout of players it will not go f2p. So that depends when they defecate in the bed.

They should probably go F2P for dragon flight and let people buy the best gear and mounts with gold they can buy with real money.

Using old republic online as an extreme example, god I hope not.
wanna do current raids? buy the pack for them or a ONE USE TICKET
wanna have all three slots for professions? buy it
want to equip high level gear? buy the access to it
wanna hide your head slot item? buy the unlock.

Hypothetically I could see blizz pulling something like this, unlikely but its not out the realm of possibility if the mobile games division takes off(lol)

I think the idea of them going Free to Play and full on Pay to Win to the level of Genshin Impact is a lot more likely now after seeing Clash of ClanCraft than I would have thought yesterday.

if you think wow didn’t make more money this last patch than it did in any in the last 10 years you’re fried

they somehow found a way to ensure a massive majority would buy at minimum one wow token per legendary but realistically most people I know bought several

Imagine how much more they would sell from services and the cash shop if they dropped the $15/month barrier to entry. Imagine the WoW token being converted into gold packets in a F2P cash shop.

Wow already has a f2p mode…

Guess you have to quit now then lol

Loot-boxes are a gateway to the F2P model.

If it goes F2P, I quit the game, forever.

There is also not a single f2p mmogame i dont dislike terribly, aside lost ark pvp.

I feel like the robustness of the WoW cash shop absolutely pales in comparison to other comparable games.

0 chance.
this game will die at F2P. yall think spam is bad now? just wait.

F2P once the Microsoft acquisition goes through next year, then on Game Pass with a whole new cash shop.

Game pass ultimate is $15 considering xbox gold is included with that, I don’t see this as in issure

Please no. We don’t need the riff raff that F2P brings in. Keep that sub as long as humanly possible.

Nope. Very little chance at all. not when box sales continue to break records, and DF box sales will break records, again, I have no doubt.

Free trial or using tokens to pay for the sub is not F2P. F2P, even with a F2P/Sub Model, will fundamentally change the monetization of the game. If that happens, I will quit.
