Chain pulling tanks suck

But we kinda don’t have a choice. hello. My name is Larilostra. I main a tank, and I would like to share an experience with you.

Be me. In a M+. Did a dungeon I never did before, but I looked up the quick guide. I see heals is struggling and DPS is just taking damage from any source they can find. Ok. I pull packs as I normally do.

DPS says pull big.

I pull big…

We all die.

DPS that asked me to pull big says maybe not so big… How do i know the specific bigness you require?

Fast forward through random folks dying here and there. We at 9 deaths now. So I slow it down a bit… Out of the corner of my eye I see a Demon Hunter running behind me (I am facing mobs away from team). he comes back with 3 more people chasing him… Okay… I get aggro, but he took a lot of damage as he was pulling. He survived (barely) but someone else dies. Soon, the group dies.

I sigh and use kaioken (pop wings) and finish off the pack.

We are at that Valkyrie boss now . So it is my first time and I messed up. I pulled the two adds at the same time before boss. I killed it solo but that is on me. I take responsibility for that. The guides only focus on bosses. But hear me out. I only did that because I thought we were pulling big. So of course I am gonna pull every add in front of me. Why would I do 1 at a time?

We rez and pull boss. Once again folks die. And no, not on me this time. I know to switch sides. So I stay on one side and solo her down from 2 million.

We get to the boss before Odin… I make myself familiar with the shield mechanic. I use shield. Two folks outside of shield. We wipe. We get it next pull and we are over time.

(Hits FF button) Odin we wipe 4 times. I stuck around till the group fell apart.

My gripe:

Everyone constantly blames tanks for speeding. Sorry to tell ya, but you guys made us like this. I don’t like speeding. It’s not fun for me and it is not comfortable. Call me a scrub tank or whatever. I like pulling manageable packs and going a decent pace.

But it never fails that there is always someone demanding I pull more or go faster. And some of yall gonna be mad at hearing this, but the first to demand we rush is usually the first one to die.

I can handle myself as a Paladin. And I am not even a good Paladin, so i can imagine how immortal everyone else is. I don’t care how fast or slow we go. I don’t even care if we wipe.

But all this blaming tanks for speeding like we all decided on our own we gotta go fast , and there is no one pulling for us if we don’t speedrun or demanding we pull bigger, is some borderline gaslighting.

You all know why tanks chain pull. Stop acting like tanks are the ONLY issue.

Make your own groups, and ensure that people understand the pace ahead of time. It is, quite honestly, that simple. It may be more time consuming, but it’s highly effective.

Yeah, because you failed to hold aggro. Tanks aren’t infallible, either.

On a boss fight?

Okay man. Like I said, Some of yall gonna be mad.

On a boss fight? Who said anything about a boss fight. In fact, the part I quoted you on was about going quickly and pulling quickly. Had nothing to do with a boss fight, quit trying to move the goal post. Likewise, you’ll be mad hearing this. Usually when a dps says pull big its because they actually have the dps to handle that pull, you ever stop to think that maybe you’re the problem? That you cant keep threat? Not every dps death is their fault, sometimes tanks just suck.

Trust me dude. I was not the issue this run.

You coming off super sensitive about this. If you have big PP DPS and never die in big pulls, then I aint talking about you.

Yeah yeah tank fault

Now get out of here :rage:

Dont do this unless you know these few things:

-do the packs have one-shot mechanics or multiple required interrupts? If yes, then do you have AoE CC available?
-do either you or your healer have cooldowns available?
-do you have a melee with poor situational awareness?

If any of these are false, don’t pull big.

these threads are so funny to me. there’s so many variables that go into double/ triple pulling that you couldn’t possibly type them all

sadly people don’t know these variables and end up on the floor.

I’m not at all, but from my view of things, you’re coming off as extremely self-righteous and again, infallible, as if it’s never the tanks fault. I get it, your post, your game experience, your opinion, that’s all good and well; but try to see it from both sides. Yeah sometimes dps are impatient and suck, but sometimes tanks are way too slow for what the group can handle. Someone else gave you the best response for your issue anyway, be selective with your groups and inform them of your speed. Cheers.

With that thread title, there’s no chance I want to be you at all.

Chain pulling is great.

Because you understand the dungeon mechanics enough to know what you can and can’t pull together.

You’re just being petty by wiping the group on purpose to force a slow pace that helps no one.

I’ve learned to ignore dps when they say this, because it never goes well.

failing is okay, you learn from failure.

That seems to only work if the Tank is the one setting the pace. If dps or heals try and ask for it, they get ignored.

I just ignore DPS/Heals complaints and go brr. If you cant keep up try lower keys.

Why do you guys keep saying we made you like this? If the group can’t handle big pulls then don’t pull big, regardless of what some mangy dps says. They can die alone if they’re that impatient

Some people can’t work as a team (not talking about the OP). Many people want to force their own outlook on the rest and don’t compromise. It puts many tanks in an impossible situation with people in the group all wanting different things and are determined that their specific needs are what the group should address.

And yes, sometimes the tank is a goober.

Learn to work as a team. If you can’t, do solo content or a single player game.

It’s not rocket science though :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not trying to be mean, but it just takes time, not much effort.

You are tank - do NOT follow the direction and demands of DPS and Healers.

If they pull - they die.

If they don’t heal - you vote kick.

End of story.

You’re more likely to get vote kicked yourself with that attitude.

I don’t need selfish and petty individuals in my team.
