Centaurs as a New Race - now with Photoshop

Hello everyone, I recently saw a topic that inspired me, so I decided to create a montage to convey the idea I have about the equipment of a possible centaur race.

I’m going to post three images below and explain them a bit, then I’ll talk about the ground and flying mounts.

take note : Of course, new equipment should be added in the new dungeons AFTER this race is added, equipment for back, shins, and legs.

In the case above, the equipment would be standard, without removing or adding new slots for leggings and back.

It would follow the same idea as the Dractyr equipment, which is ‘magical’ - it’s impossible to have coherence in the back cape since Dractyr have wings.

In this one, I envisioned another possibility for change.

Firstly, the back slot would consist of plates or a cape for the back part of the centaur’s ‘horse’ body. Covering the entire back as shown in the photo, it could also cover part of the legs (or not, that depends on the fantasy of the armor).

Instead of a slot for feet, we would have a slot that would serve for 4 shin guards (they would drop at once, a set with 4 identical shin guards) or four new slots for 4 shin guards (this one I find more unfeasible, but there is this possibility).

The leggings slot would actually be a shield for the front part of the horse, as if it were a ‘second’ breastplate.

It would be possible to use transmogs for the entire upper part of the centaur, from any class, but there would be this modification for the bottom part, requiring some new equipment to cover this lack of items in past expansions. I believe this is something ‘normal’ because the same issue occurred with DHs; their weapons were created and added after the race was created, except for Illidan’s weapons (and another one that i forgot the name).

About mounts:

I tried to generate some images in the GPT chat but they didn’t turn out interesting.

The idea is to have a story where Centarius gives a buff to a specific clan of centaurs, just like the Highmountain Tauren, where they can concentrate and gain magical wings (similar to Pegasus), allowing them a flight similar to dragon riding.

This opens up some possibilities to have wings of different colors, styles, sizes, and of course, the sale of special wings in the shop (Blizzard, here’s a free ideia for you).

Of course, this race would NOT use flying or ground mounts, considering that it is itself a mount.

“But it would be a race that wouldn’t use other mounts” - Yes, it would be a race that wouldn’t use other mounts. It’s a completely different race, introducing a different type of idea in this game. The player would have to accept this reality because it’s something NEW.

Out of battle, after 3 or 5 seconds, simply use a racial skill and the centaur would run at 100% speed.

Justification for this being viable: Druids.

Druids have a form of free flight and a high-speed ground mount with just one click. So, I don’t see any problem with centaurs having these two possibilities.

About classes:

In my view, this race would be perfect for archers, warriors, and shamans.

I included a spear in the picture (pretend it’s a spear lol) and a bow, which could signify a new class called the Lancer, but this is ONLY a suggestion.

I don’t believe Blizzard would create a new class considering the new skills from War Within.

With this idea coming to life, it would open up the possibility of new races that don’t follow the ‘humanoid’ type to be a new option for us.

I don’t think any character with those body dimensions, be it Centaur, Dryad, or Naga, could be played without it causing camera issues that forced it to have to be played zoomed out.

thanks, for some reason i just can’t post links on the first topic lol.

I believe we have already played quests with both races, which gave us an exact vision of how it would be - I remember that in Cataclysm (or was it before, I can’t remember exactly), we played as a naga warrior, and it was a VERY satisfying experience.

If I’m not mistaken, there’s a quest where we play as a centaur, and it’s completely normal, considering it’s the old model.

Back items (cloaks) already exist, so why make a new slot specifically for that? Also keep the legs instead of making it a brand new slot. Same goes for separating the feet slot into four… Blizzard had class-specific slots in the past but got rid of them, so why make race-specific slots? I can imagine raiding with no Centaur players and all that drops from a boss is this new back slot, new “front shield” slot, and new “shin guard” slot; “Anyone plan on Race Changing to Centaur to use these items? No? Alright, guess they’re all being disenchanted…”

Mechagnomes can’t transmogrify their wrist, hands, and feet slots so just do the same for Centaur, or go the Dracthyr route and make race-specific armor where gear doesn’t affect the appearance.

Personally, I don’t think races like Centaur and Naga would work as playable races because of their design. What mounts could they even use? They could have a racial mount ability like Worgen’s Running Wild, but I can’t see them mounting a gryphon, wyvern, or any actual mount whether it be for flight or not.

I understood, it was one of the options I put up there in one of the jpgs - either this becomes a kind of magical slot like in Dractyrs’s slots, or they would drop specific shin items for centaurs instead of foot items.

But there wouldn’t be new slots, just the item representing something different.

To make a race like this, there would have to be this small adaptation, but you could also say that everything is a magical slot and it would work as well.

About mounts, I replied to that in the first topic.

Players would choose Centaur then complain about transmog and mount limitations as if they didn’t sign up for it.
Can’t blame Blizzard for not wanting to open that door.

So what happens if someone Race Changes to Centaur? Does the character suddenly have no “shin” item in the slot? What about the reverse, going from Centaur to another race? Does the character suddenly have no feet item in the slot? Just keep them the same items.

TBH Draenei and Tauren already exist without the need for “shin guard” slot

I understand that this can happen, but aren’t they already complaining about the heroes’ talents these days? Aren’t they complaining about the features that already exist in the game? So, this is normal; if complaints were to prevent the game from advancing and having new things, then we would never progress and have innovations, right?

Nowadays, there are equipment options for those returning to play with a certain character, with a standard ilvl.

There are two approaches here: either Blizzard provides equipment with the same ilvl but with the correct slot for a specific race, or they provide a lower ilvl green item. Obviously, this would be unfair because the person paid for a custom premium service (race change), so the first solution would be more appropriate in this case.

However, there has been discussion about the slots being magical, like the dractyrs example … This would somewhat resolve your issue. However, if every non-humanoid race were to have magical slots, it would break the fantasy of the class a bit. Why? Because centaurs have four “legs” and not two legs, so it would be more interesting to have new items that go in the feet slot for centaurs, such as a “set of shin guards,” rather than just a magical slot, considering it would be bland and break the fantasy.

As I mentioned, Demon Hunters started to have many new weapons after they were “invented,” although there were two weapons (Illidan’s and another I can’t remember the source) in the game. But it’s the best example we can have here.

If a new race of this magnitude is to be added, it’s better to indeed have new items for these slots (shin guards, back armor like a saddle, and legguards as a frontal shield).

And with that, we would have new items in new dungeons/raids/world for these slots. So, in a race change, Blizzard would provide equipment of equivalent ilvl.

That’s true. They have the “shin guards,” which would solve the detail of the feet slot. But there’s still the back slot and the leg slot, which I believe would be very difficult to recycle from what we have today, becoming either magical slots or slots that will receive new items from new dungeons/raids/worlds upon the creation of this race. In any case, any solution would be feasible, although it would break the fantasy a bit.

I would love to see them as a playable race, but I still prefer centaurs first and foremost.

However, it’s interesting to observe this picture and realize that:

IF there were new items for the shins, back, and legs, it would serve for a race like this one as well. So, if Blizzard made this “addition,” which I’m not saying is easy, but it makes sense, they could already introduce about four more quadrupedal variant races into the game.
