Centaur Mounts

I like WoW Centaurs. Especially the ladies.

But I know I’m in a minority group. Most people care not for the savage Horse people with six limbs and two ribcages.

And that makes it unlikely that Centaurs will ever be playable characters.

There’s also the issue of mounts. Even though there are some perfectly reasonable solutions to that issue (like a clumsy bipedal shapeshifting form for mounting based on the fact that they are all descendants of Cenarius the OG Druid God), I imagine the fact that the devs would have to implement solutions to a problem wouldn’t improve the chances of this unpopular race to be playable.

But come on! Throw me a bone! I’m cute!

So if I can’t play as a Centaur, at least let me take one with me in my adventures!

I think they would be good as mounts because:

1 - They have all the important mount-parts of a Horse, the most obvious Mount.

2 - We’ve had plenty of sentient mounts before, like Dragons and the children of Yu-lon and Xuen (this last one is a Monk-exclusive mount).

I would prefer a playable Centaur over this, but if we can’t have playable Centaurs, this is the best compromise I can think of.

Playable centaurs would be pretty rad.

You want to ride centaurs, eh Mortis? What would your succubi think?

She’d share in the pleasure of riding a Centaur, of course.

And they Join the Horde just to give the Tauren Vietnam flashbacks,

We all know he’d end up being the mount

Blizzard used to have a strict policy against sentient hunter pets and mounts. But then again we know have Gronnlings and Yeti mounts so, who knows.

That said, I think Centaur would be a cool Horde race. And it would be a cool excuse to give the Alliance keepers/dryads as their counterparts.

What about… a centaur battleground

That could happen.

According to Chronicle, the Magram Clan of Centaurs allied themselves with the Horde back in Vanilla.

(In-game anyone from any faction could earn reputation with the Gelkis or the Magram clan, their choice. Lorewise it was the Horde that did it and they picked the Magram)

If it did, they wouldn’t be Alliance, so Horde they would be for sure.

We got our first sentient mount in tBC: The Netherdrakes.

You even talk to the Netherdrake of your choice to pick your first one!

It could potentially be earlier, depending on if you consider the Qiraji sentient.

Fair point. I guess that was just the excuse they gave when they broke the worgen hunter pet back in WotLK

I have a hypothesis.

You know how they always say they plan expansions in advance?

And there’s evidence to that, considering the stuff Gul’dan and Varimathras said in Legion that foreshadowed events of BfA and Shadowlands?

Well, back in WotLK Cata was probably already planned, and so the fact that we were going to have playable Worgen was already decided, even though we didn’t know about it.

And they didn’t want Hunters to tame a playable race.

Combine the two into a pit lord? (A pit lady, I guess.)

In all my thousands of hours of grinding centaurs in vanilla, I never thought of this…

Best I can do is a horse.

I think you’re probably right. Also that was around the time they said they would be pre-seeding playable race prior to releasing them as to not pull another Draenei debacle.

uh…

Centaur mounts would be pretty cool. I’ve always been a fan of them and even played a few in D&D. I’d love to see an updated model in WoW. Would look pretty nice with some of the newer horse models.
