CC Member's take on Race/Class Combos

Sure I’ll bite, I still think in response to this your side is being selfish. It’s ironic that you’re caught up in what I am and am not responding to, and then just plugging your ears for silly reasons to any point I’m trying to make at all.

Player characters are not the posters for racial and cultural significance of the race they represent. Player stories can and should be told however they want, and players doing this does not negatively impact the lore, or the races cultures, or your gameplay at all.

If you do not like a specific race/class combo, you’re welcome to not interact with it, but the sheer existence of it in the hands of a person who has created an idea or a background, or even somebody that just likes the way it looks, doesn’t impact your game.

Again, I’m not advocating for blizzard to flood the game with a bunch of never before seen race/class NPC characters, but let players do what makes them happy.

That is the thing though. By being around others, the races can learn from others and culture doesn’t mean it’s impossible. I saw in another post that pointed out that there is a draenai warlock trainer in Shat. Humans often being referred to as highly adaptive could easily pick up druid and shaman like the Kul’tiran. As much as I’m against it even new race demon hunters can be made. They just can’t put them in the original demon hunter starting zone. They would just need a new meta and animations.

So years later, a war, and several world threatening conflicts anything that isn’t an actual limitation (like void elf using the light according to some people) is irrelevant.

Within reason, some more options should eventually happen, but allowing for every race to be every class should never happen, ever.

I didnt say that for one thing, and for the real reason people hide their profile (like I care what you said in -list your favorite pizza- thread) is so they can troll and get away with it for longer because to ignore them requires first clicking your character picture, clicking preferences > users > ignore

99.9999% of forum trolls set their profile to private just so they can troll more and most people won’t know how to ignore them.

(again I’m no stalker and I have never once used a person’s profile to look at their actual post history, I don’t care, its just a HUGE red flag that someone is a career troll when they private.)

Only reason I have mine hidden is cause some people will outright verbally attack me if I try to suggest stuff for void elves that have any sort of high elf theme in them, even if most I’ve done is suggest hair colour variety and hairstyles. And some people like to go in other’s post histories, dig for any potential commentary they can use against you and then try to blackmail or take advantage of you in some way. It’s just not worth the hassle.

I set mine to private after a bunch of the high elf people kept following me through my post history, culminating in them entering into a thread on my Server forum where I was discussing trialling for a raiding guild and telling them I did a bunch of stuff I never did.

I feel like trolls tend to make low level classic alts rather than just set their accounts to private because you can still work out whose alt someone is with private, but classic alts are totally anonymous.

Wrong. 99.9999% of forum trolls WANT you to set your profile to public so they can find any little thing to harass and bully you over. Trolls need food, and an unhidden profile is like a feast for them.

Who cares to cyberstalk people on a forum but trolls? That is like the hallmark of a troll. Normal people don’t do that.

Preach! We don’t deserve to be bullied or harassed just because we sometimes have controversial opinions or might get a bit heated. Disagreements and arguments are part of human interaction, you cannot simply delete them and force a utopia.

I have no interest in discussing things with someone who refuses to respond to entire posts and only cherry picks to call others selfish. I thought that was evident by me never reading the rest of your posts after what you pulled. I’m sure you have good points and I’m glad to know your opinion is heard and I respect that others may agree with you. But I won’t discuss it with someone who started off so negatively in the first place, without even acknowledging what else was said. I hope you have a good evening.

To an extent, yes, I agree. And I feel that small storylines, along with racial class skins will help make this even better and add the lore needed to make it feel better for others. I’d like to push for Blizz to do this, because it just adds more content and more story, which I feel helps the game and those who are wary about opening up more of these combos. Besides, who could say no to Velfs getting Void Knights through a racial class skin?

Wrong. Because literally everything is searchable and easy to find.

Also wrong, because again, you can find anything you want by searching.

Disagreeing isn’t trolling. But people like you don’t comprehend that.

i think they should strive to keep alliance and horde race/class combos equal when they add new race/class combos.

There’s been a very obvious horde bias in this game. It’s hard to look the other way. They can just add more alliance combos until both are even.

Not really until TBC and blood elf racial/paladin seal better tbh.

I mean, if by “Horde bias” you mean “biased towards killing Horde lore characters”.

I just want to say after reading this thread, you had done a good job explaining and keeping to your point in this thread despite being crowned on by others. The ability to remain calm is a strong characteristic I think we all need to use more on these forums.

That said I agree with your cultural examples.

Everytime I see you use thus term I think you want Void paladins, which not only not exist in the WoW universe, but would be lore breaking for WoW’s version of paladins.

But to make sure can you please explain with a bit of detail of what your referring to with class skins?

I have never asked for this, nor any new combos. I’m talking about any combos mentioned by people around here so that they thematically fit with racial culture.

These have been posted countless times and even Wowhead has fan made versions.

Come on Greatbrae you are clearly picking on a single class / race combo just to benefit your own agenda against high elf pros or even void theme fans who would see value in a Void Knight. Stop picking on us in every single thread it’s gotten tiring. Void themed Paladins make more sense than some other race class combos at this point.

Void Knight, yes. Void Paladin? Not so much… Light devotion and zealotry (or religious devotion in a more grounded fantasy setting) is basically what separates a Paladin in any fantasy setting from a Knight or generic Warrior in plate class.

I mean a Void Knight as a Paladin. We still want those cool Paladin animations. Even better if void themed. There are several ways they (the devs) can go about it.

I mean, you could just use the animations for the new class, it just wouldn’t be a Paladin in name/nature. Cutting corners in class design is sort of what they do.

I enjoy the restrictions and I wish they wouldn’t open the flood gates to letting every race be any class.

In fantasy writing you have hard power systems and soft power systems. Hard power systems are often times considered higher standards of writing because the magic is well thought out with its advantages, disadvantages, and capabilities clearly lined out. It gives a frame work for the reader to understand when a character is actually in a bad situation vs. being able to magically magic their way out of it. These restrictions give a sense of parameters to be adhered to and create a more anchored environment and setting.

This kind of parallels into World of Warcraft. It gives players a sense of the world, what their character is as a race, its values, culture, heritage, etc.

Class restrictions help embellish these ideas, and lore of the world that has been created, with that brings uniqueness and individuality to the player and their choice in which race and class they chose to play.

If you remove the restrictions the game loses a bit of its remaining soul, the lore and concepts that built this game, the stories and racial identities are lost to homogenization.

The game will feel silly, Tauren Rogues for example… It breaks the fantasy or “realism” of the game.

Each new race/ class combo shouldn’t be added just because they should be meaningful and thought out additions that fit the games fantasy and lore.
