Catch Up Renown System is Garbage

Complete and utter trash.

I don’t understand why at max 40 renown… I get stuck at earning renown.

I was at 18 renown last night. Saving my campaign and callings and world boss and weekly anima/souls until the very end (Because they are guaranteed and renown catchup supposedly slows the higher you go)

So…me big braining this thought to myself… hmmm… why not save the guaranteed drops until the end so I can speed this process up. IE… do the rng renown first for the best rng ratio then the guaranteed ones to top off.

5 mythic bosses… (the highest content has the best chance to reward renown)… so mythic bosses, i’m sitting at 18/40 renown… thinking to myself… easy 5 renown right?

WRONG.

nada…ziltch… zero… 3 mythic dungeons later… still nothing… stuck at 18… Not only did they swap my renown rewards (from quests I already accepted) into valor rewards… but I was not getting any renown from content.

SO i start forum hopping and discord chatting and the consensus… if you don’t progress the story people think they cap your renown…

SO not only is this utter trash system completely ambiguous and rng… but blizzard soft caps you without ANY type of indication… wasting hours of grinding a day…

so i was like ok… time to do the campaign… did the campaign… lo and behold the fist HEROIC dungeon I do drops a renown…

SUCH A STUPID SYSTEM

That’s by design. It’s consistent with a lot of the other systems in SL.

Meh, the system is ok. I can agree that it would be nice if the rules were more clearly defined

Yeah and there’s no chance at all that Blizzard predicted people would do this or anything, so they could put preventative measures in. lol

It’s long been known that you have to do the campaigns as you get them or renown slows down, don’t know why, guess they don’t want you to be able to go over cap?

But yea, it’s been known for awhile.

yep its why I quit retail, blizzard only cares about the hardcore elite players

Why though… it’s supposed to be a catch up mechanic? Why punish people for optimizing it? I’ve already done the renown… hence my catchup. Why intentionally block people without any indication knowing that people could get stuck for days trying to farm renown with 0 luck.

Specially since the OP actually has mythic kills so by that persons definition wouldn’t that make him the hardcore elite?

And nearly a full set of 15+

Unless you are trying to no life 1-40 in one sitting, I don’t really see the problem.

My fresh 60 alt hit 16 renown without even trying. I still have tons of renown I can easily earn too.

I dunno. When I came back from a break I caught up pretty quick. I think I made it up to 28 or so before it stopped chucking new levels at me, so I was almost completely caught up anyway in just a few days.

I just leveled up my priest. Every single daily WQ, every single end of dungeon boss, every single LFR raid boss dropped renown. Up to level 28 and then stopped. So the catch up is working fine.

not even wowhead has this up… so how in the world is it known when it’s literally not written anywhere… for someone doing the catchup for the first time it literally has 0 indication of being this way and it took me an hour of googling and talking to people on class discords to get a “MAYBE” it works this way for a few people…

the whole point is to catch up… with this system… especially this late in the game… I did want to do 1-40 asap so I could get my bindings back up to where they need to be for raiding. and when blizzard decides to do an entire rebalance of covenants right in the middle of a tier… they’re literally screwing over anyone that is progression minded.

Your soulbinds don’t need 40 to be fully unlocked and mythic NA was cleared when soulbinds weren’t even able to be fully unlocked.

With catch up it take a something that took our mains months down to at most a few weeks. Stop freaking out about not being 40 asap.

  1. I’m not limit… so for us normal Mythic progression peeps soulbinds help.
  2. you are correct. I only wanted to get to 35 for the last stam. but in the end… the topic is still the same.
  3. I get that you love bliz or whatever… but for any logical person this system is dumb… it’s a break from their past catchup systems, and those were always meant to catch people up super quickly to current content.

The fact that it can take “weeks” doesn’t make it a catchup… literally every other catchup in the past could have been done in a week if you put the time in…

this system punishes you for trying to do it efficiently… and then it falls prey to heavy rng and the whimsical BS of blizzard not actually telling us how it works when in the past it was clear as day.

Would be nice to know if there was a hard cap on how much you gain in a week.

Over the weekend, like I stated above, I leveled to 60 and gained 28 renown just over 2 days (this last weekend). Then it was dead stop. Did a bunch of dungeons and zip.

After reset Tuesday, got 4 more right away, but not like starting off. I did 9 raid bosses and only received one renown. One for the weekly anima quest, one for the maw souls and one off the weekly WQ boss.

So it would be nice to know if there was a weekly cap that you can gain.

I haven’t done it myself, but my good friend has done it a few times already and he swears by just spamming heroics.
He says all the people saying its “capped” and “slow” are just approaching it wrong. It takes him a day to get to wherever you can get just by spamming heroics and that’s it.

I will try to remember to ask him if he thinks you have to do the story FIRST though.
But honestly, I doubt that is the case, because I have been getting renown on my paladin for months and never even started it.

Catch up system is flawed for sure. My main was close to 40 when I swapped covents and now she is below my 2 other alts.

So has anyone gotten renown from callings since the patch? I haven’t done a thorough check but none of my alts that are behind have renown attached to their 3 callings… it’s all valor.
