I switched my warrior to Kyrian about a week ago and can’t seem to get my last renown to catch up to the cap. I have done some of every type of content (LFR, heroic raid, dungeons, rated PVP, world boss, new weekly quests) since my last catch-up renown to no avail. Most notably today is my 5th or 6th calling quest without it. Is this strictly an RNG thing and I have terrible luck or is there some invisible wall that I am hitting?

I believe you are missing something. In your quest log, what does it say under chapters to advance? Also what is his currently renown?
I’m pretty positive I have exhausted all my options. He is at 19 renown. Quest log says earn renown 20 to advance the campaign (which would cap me at 21 with the renown from campaign quest).
Is he renown 19 before the weekly reset or after doing the two renown quests this week?
SO you are current as right before reset which was 18. You are now 19, did you fill the reservoir? Is there a quest you can pick up in your covenant? Just trying to help also
I switched back before x-mas on my DH, less than a week later I was at the 15 renowned cap. I did it again later on my rogue alt and it took about a week to get to 15 in his new covenant.
So I was 16 before the reset yesterday… I did one of the weekly quests to get 17, did the campaign quest, and then did my second weekly to get me to 19. No catch-up renown in between.
The pattern I’ve been noticing is people are using current weekly quests to get over the previous week’s cap, which seems to lock them out of the catch-up renown.
Like say you were Renown 17 yesterday on reset. You do the 1000 anima Renown weekly, and get Renown 18. Because you’ve done a current Renown quest, you’re now locked out of catch-up.
Just a pattern I’m seeing from people posting. Maybe not the actual case, but worth considering.

So you shouldn’t be gated at this point. At the moment your only real option would be to do things like the covenants dailies and dungeons. Pvp if you like it but I think thats your only option until 20 that I’m aware of.
I suppose this is possible, but I don’t (want to) believe that this is the reason because when I originally switched I still received catch-up renown after the weekly quests. And then it just… stopped.
I switched to Kyrian last week. I was able to get up to renowned 15 in a single week.
I got to around 11 in a day or two before it slowed down SUBSTANTIALLY… I am now at 19 for this week but havent gotten any renowned from anything besides the campaign or calling quests.
From my experience less week, you just have to wait until you get the purple calling quests throughout the week to advance.

Sounds like we’re in the same boat. Unfortunately, my last purple calling didn’t give me one 
Yes, I believe it would stop when you reach the previous week’s cap. IE : 18. So if you used any current renown quests to get there, you’re basically SOL.
Which would mean you’d have to use exclusively catch-up to get to 18, and then do the 1k anima/10 souls/last campaign step.
Just agreeing with the same thing a lot of people have observed: the cap for catch-up renown seems to ONLY get you to the renown-level you would be at, this week, BEFORE you started doing the weekly yellow quests/campaign quests (/it seems to only get you to the max renown level of the previous week). So you have to make sure you DON’T complete the reservoir quest or souls quest (i.e. any yellow weeklies) or any campaign quests until you’re at the previous week’s max. (Would be helpful if Blizz released some sort of explainer clarifying this so people aren’t smashing their heads against the wall running dungeons over and over to try to get their promised extra renown to drop.)

I have a teammate who has been one behind and we could not figure out how or why. I bet this is it; it sounds like a ball Blizzard would drop. So if I understand this right, make sure on Tuesday she does the catch up quest before the normal reknown quests for the week and she may be able to catch up?

My alt went from 0 to 21 in 3 weeks I did 0 campaign steps till I had all the renown to just blow through the campaign and it seemed to work without issue (most likely because I had more than 3 campaign renown to earn).
Just confirmed today this is what the issue is. I made a separate post about it too trying to warn others.
Today after reset both of my calling quests list renown as a reward. The one from yesterday did not list renown as a reward until today after the reset.
This is a really bad system and makes zero sense to me.
