Yesterday after patch I tried to convert my helmet into a raid piece, I clicked confirm to complete the process and instantly got disconnected.
Returned an hour later to see a charge consumed and my helmet gone. Just straight up gone.
Filled a ticket but its Blizzard so I got nowhere.
Just thought i’d share my experience with ya’ll.
Edit: Helm isnt on the list of items able to be restored.
Oof, thanks for the warning. Hopefully your ticket will be resolved very soon, and you’ll get your helmet back.

Check if you can restore it. It may have bugged out and the confirmation was to delete the item?
Yeah, worth a shot at least. If it actually considers it “converted” it likely won’t be there, but it takes just a second to go and see.

At this point just outsource the positions to customer support in Asia and call it a day. Would free up resources to improve the game. Every interaction I’ve had with a GM the past 3 years has been absolutely atrocious.

I came to this thread solely to “om nom nom.”
I’ve had weirdness happen whenever I use the gear upgrade or Catalyst when I try to convert gear in my bags that is sill eligible to trade. I now make it a point to only convert gear that I have equipped as equipped gear is no longer eligible for trading.
Have you checked to see if the item might be restorable through item restoration? Long shot but worth a try. I’m sorry this happened to you.

GM’s are completely useless now. I don’t think they serve a single purpose anymore unless maybe you’re a streamer or a world first guild or whatever. They will do absolutely nothing to help the average person.
It’s really too bad because gm’s used to be great but that was a very long time ago.
Crap man, that sucks! And could have been me! I converted a helmet yesterday as well, and while not at that specific moment, I did suffer a couple awful DC’s, like the one in a +8 WCM 
I hope you get it resolved and get your piece of gear back.
Same thing happened to me yesterday, put my pants in the Catalyst, got disconnected, came back with 1 less charge, no pants, and nothing in item restoration. Opened a ticket and was told to file a bug report.
