So there apparently is a 12k cap on cataloged research.
I am just about rank 4 and need to turn in whats in my bags for rep… but it wont let me because it would put me over cap.
What is the design decision here? Am I supposed to just buy teleporter keys forever until I hit rank 4? Upgrade useless catch up gear on my 226 main just to get below cap?
It seems that stygia is replaced by cataloged research in 9.1. You could buy conduit upgrades and sockets with stygia, but now you buy those things with cataloged research. Stygia was uncapped, but cataloged research is.
Best guess is that their data analytics tell them players would max out conduits in X days and be fully socketed in Y days. Someone in Finance looked at that and correlated it with the rate of those canceling their subs (or monthly active user decline, whatever) and said “we can improve our sub/MAU numbers if we cap this currency and make it take 2-3 times longer to max out conduits/sockets… that a go?” Some corporate Activision suit: “Hell yeah!”
Edit: All of the time-gating is to prevent a paying customer from burning through the content and un-subbing early (compared to their target mark for how long they expected the content to last vs what it cost them to create the content).
You dont have to mass turn in, you can click the items individually next to him. Maybe you can get to rank 4 without capping that way?
Also the catch up gear goes to 233 so maybe you have a slot with bad stats you can replace? The trinkets amazingly broken so you can enjoy that until it’s hotfixed on tuesday.
its 233 once youre rank 6. I ended up just blowing 1k on an upgrade to 213 and eating it. I would have capped out and still need 500 more rep, and then im still in the exact same spot because rank 4 only offers 1 pattern and rift keys.
Yes but you can hold onto the piece until you can make it 233. As fast as you’re ranking up, “i just barely hit tier 3.” You’ll have 233 before mythic unlocks.
I will absolutely not have 233 before mythic unlocks at the rate of rep gain after the 1 time turn ins and 233 is less than heroic Ilvl which we will likely clear week 1 or 2, I am in a CE guild.
Read the thread. It caps at 220 before rank 6 and 226 at rank 5. There is no way to spend some without arbitrarily upgrading pieces I won’t wear. There are thousands of research I will get over the cap before I am even rank 5.
So your suggestion is to farm a trinket that will absolutely be nerfed, with a different currency, so I can spend this currency on it, lest I be actually blocked from gaining more rep? Am I reading you right?
You really think Ill be wearing 233 catch up gear after m+ opens and I can get the same ilvl from just running it? And you think this is a good system that I have to spend a currency on at best long shot side grades to even be able to earn rep?
Cool. Thats totally better and a great system design. Makes perfect sense to buy items on a rare spawn timer that anyone can use also and make it so I cant use mine just to turn in items.
Don know what to tell you. Just not going to happen and its still absolutely atrocious design to require that kind of juggling just to turn in rep items.
ya, ill just farm stygia (something I did last patch for the same rewards im trying to unlock now) for a 1/50something chance so I can spend ~2k upgrading it to 220 (the current cap) and be in the same spot literally tomorrow. Wonderful solution. Well thought out.
It’s clearly meant as a form of time gating but they obviously underestimated the level of no lifeing some people will go to. shrug Take a break you earned it.
