Shoutout to my very favorite phase of the game back in 2010 shortly after wotlk was over. Like I loved it with all the extra features that were added back in the day we still use.
- LFR
- Goblins
- transmogs
- harder dungeons
- a villain that was threatening
- and revamping the old world.
Blizzard did good here and I hope they can repeat the success of that in Last Titan when we get our next overhaul of older content.

While I loved WotLK, doing all the Loremaster work in the redone world was some of my favorite content I have ever done.

Just another Erevien take.
Cataclysm did wonders for the Horde so it has a special place in my heart.
Cata was my first expansion launch experience. I had lots of time and leveled up more characters in cata than any other period I have played. It was my first real intro to raiding with a guild. I liked the dungeons. I liked the raids, I like the zones. 5/7.

Cataclysm destroyed the soul of the game and was the beginning of its downfall. You had devs telling the players to get good, but they instead got lost. Funny how they caused their own problems like LFR through their own hubris.
It also put all the prior zones on rails to their own detriment, and ruined for me the epic leveling experience that allowed you to chose your own adventure. The overarching cataclysm story wasn’t time agnostic and was too in your face. The older zones should just be used as an introduction for the races, their cultures, and local problems.

“Game is dead.” Been so for 16 years dude the game is here to stay.
the alliance had an epic leveling experience sure. But the Horde only had the barrens. Cataclysm was needed otherwise the game would indeed be back cuz no one would play the red team anymore.
I only played horde in Cataclysm. They had given hunters to Forsaken so I was out taming all the Undead type pets on her. I thought all the horde quests were done well. I didnt have any issues with it.

OH and I almost forgot Silverpine forest was a decent leveling path and Darkspear Isle was retaken in a cool questline.
Silverpine was a good experience. I’m still not sold on the whole “I am the queen of undead I can just bring undead souls back by unexplained magics” thing but meh. Suspension of belief in some things is necessary for enjoyment of others.

The dungeons were savage at launch. I miss when crowd control was a normal part of the game. Now its AoE stuns while you blast thru packs.

For me Cata was a decent expansion, middle of the pack. Better than MoP and WoD but worst than BC and Wraith.

WOD was bad. Can’t judge MOP since I only played remix.
I loved Cata because it respected my time. I joined wow at late wrath, inspired to be a top tier raider, time was not a problem for me, but I soon found it was dreadful to go through 4 difficulties in ICC raid, it was repetitive. Cata combined the progress, I didnt have to feel FOMO for skipping a raid difficulty, I didn’t feel burn out for running a raid 4 times a week, and I felt my time was respected. With free time I got to level alts experience other aspects of the game. If I wanted to experience raid again, I used a different class to do so and it was fun. It was good on a both hardcore and casual experience.
After that they reversed the change, even added mythic difficulty with infinity grind…no thank you.
