Cataclysm Classic Open Talent Trees

Back in 2009 when Cataclysm Dropped, every class had to pick a Spec, and then they were locked into and restricted to that one specific talent tree and ONLY that one tree until they spent 31 talent points in that tree, at which point they only had 10 talent points of which they were free to place in any tree of their choice.

OK, now that we are all up to speed, I’m going to get into it.

Cataclysm Classic has not been announced and we do not know if it is coming or if we are going to get some kind of as of yet undefined abstract “Classic Plus” which sounds as exciting as it does mysterious.

HOWEVER, if Cataclysm Classic is coming, the removal of the talent tree restriction upon selecting a spec would be a welcome change. It would allow new styles of gameplay, encourage people to theory-craft, and promote the open customization their toons in a way that they had not had the ability to do so previously in such an era.

Until somebody figures out the optimization

People don’t need to theorycraft anymore. You just run a few simulations, and you’ll know the highest-performing combination in a few minutes. Talent choice is an illusion in most cases unless you choose to underperform.

Also, if I had to guess, they’ll announce cata classic at Blizzcon if it’s going to happen, so you’ll know if a few months.

OK, so you two both bring up a good point.
However, what a simulation is able to do does not account for the variable of how an individual is able to perform.

Different people have different play styles.

Ultimately what I am suggesting is about having fun.

HA HA! Depending on how they tweek things, it may be interesting. Supposedly all OLD RAIDS will scale.

But I had fun with the talent trees just as they were in Cata. I don’t want everything changed and rebalanced just so that you can choose whatever you want. I want my trees the way they were with the style and talents the way they were. That was Cata.

And I am suggesting that they stay the way they were in Cata. Just, opened up. If you are playing a Warlock and pick the Affliction spec, you can put some talents into destruction while leveling if you so desire…or perhaps not and keep them in the Affliction spec, whatever you wanna do.

P.S. I can’t tell if you are joking or not.
P.P.S. I have no idea why everything is bold above.

That’s not going to work with balance and gameplay. They would absolutely have to change things and rebalance things.

… why would I joke? I was a Disc Priest main in Cata. I’d rather not get my stuff changed or nerfed, as I liked it the way it was.

Because you’ve got ## in front of that text.

First: cata was released in late 2010.

Second: cataclysm had the same talent trees as wotlk (with minor talent changes).

Third: MoP was the expansion that changed the talent trees to what we had in shadowlands.

This led to the game’s first big talent revamp in Cataclysm, which pared talents down to a mere 41 points, with capstone talents for 31 points. With so many fewer talent points, many talents were removed outright or made baseline as a result. The system also forced you to specialize: you had to spend 31 points in your “main” talent tree before spending the rest elsewhere.

As usual, you are incorrect. And no one was talking about Mists talents ever at all. Go ahead and try to argue about how you’re right by moving goalposts and whatever else it is you troll with every day. I won’t be listening. Just correcting your wrong information.

Hello, friend. Thank you for being so wonderful and replying to my message.

I have heard your input and have taken it into consideration before writing this response.

Unfortunately, you are not correct in this matter, so I would have to kindly disagree with you on this one.

So here we go:

Did cata trees make you spend 31 points in your “main spec” tree before going to others? Yes. But you still had many free points after that to spend as you so chose in every other tree.

The first time where talent trees were segregated between specs completely was Mists of Pandaria.

Mists did not even give the player the option of choosing talents in other trees. Every spec had its own tree and there was no overlap whatsoever.

So, in conclusion, cata talent trees still had the same overlap people found in vanilla, TBC and wotlk while MoP was the first expansion where talent trees were completely segregated between specs.

Notice how I wrote with minor talent changes. The minor change in cata was that you had to spend 31 points in your main tree but the talent trees themselves were the same. So, this was a minor change, thus I am correct

I’m so glad that you took the time to speak your thoughts on this matter and I hope that you take my response kindly.

So, it is unfortunate that I have to tell you that you are not correct. But that’s completely fine, sometimes people just don’t know the correct answer and it’s ok. You didn’t know the correct answer here but you are still a good person and now you have the opportunity to learn from your mistakes, friend

I’m so glad we had this exchange of ideas and you now have the opportunity to correct your errors.

Hope you have a wonderful and lovely day

P.S. I am rooting for you and hope you receive your evoker legendary sometime soon because you so wholeheartedly deserve it, my lovely friend

How can I be incorrect here regarding the release date of cata?

Cataclysm release date: December 7, 2010

Thank you kindly again so much for your wonderful input, friend

Looks like they refuse to welcome this idea.
