Cata Retrospect and Review

Now that Cata is over, what do you guys all think in retrospect playing through it?

Personally I was pleasantly surprised and would actually like to revist Cata once more in the future again, I even wouldn’t mind a Cata Era too. If you all had to give it a review, what would it be ?

I quit when anniversary came out, but I think Cata was fine if you treat it as WoW 2. I leveled rogue and had a great time through the leveling process. I never got into raiding. I just didn’t have time. But my time spent on it was fine. As always though, expansions make other expansion content irrelevant so I spent very little time in Outland and on Northrend.

The first time Cataclysm came out, I stopped playing. Leveling took SO LONG, and I disliked Vajir. I never thought I’d get through that zone! This time around, it was still a slog to get through; however, I knew Mist of Pandaria awaited me. This time I ended up in the Twilight Highlands, which I had never gone through before. I enjoyed that zone! I discovered Tol Barad. Admittedly, I had the Joyous Journey XP boost to finally get me to 85. I also had to respec as an Enhancement Shaman because Elemental was nerfed to the point of unplayability.
The beginning was a slog but the expansion ended on a nice note and now off to Pandaria!

Cata is trash and basically retail.

Enjoy retail lite again in MoP.

You might as well just quit and go play retail you can play pandas there too and it’s way better than some trash Classic version of MoP will be even though retail is also trash.

I like the zones. I like the professions. But I abhor the way the classes play, and the forced specs, and anything account wide, and how ridiculously easy levelling and open world questing is.
I did not play. I clearly remember Cata from first time around, and had no desire to revisit it at all. not now, not ever. The loading screen is enough for me to close WoW immediately.

:sob:

cata and mop is the lesser more tolerable versions of retail
but you’re right its not for players like you

I enjoyed it just doing normal dungeon pugs that’s about as socially tolerable as I could be. Quested enough to get to 85 on a few alts and I’ll see how hard life is in pandaria without doing a single raid or heroic in cata. I’ll be fine, it was fine the first time.

I was (like pretty much every classic player) a MASSIVE hater of Cata with literally no experience or reason as to why

“oh it ruined the world”
“all the classes are bland”
“LFR ruined the game”

The usual lines you read everywhere.

Ive been playing Cata the last… 4 months? And its been honestly… Incredible. The world changing is… not a big deal… and the classes are actually super fun and unique.

Omg i cant be 15/15/15 in my talents… Who. Cares.

The end cap talent is actually useful (unlike vanilla) so its not a big deal to get the entire tree before moving on.

Could I have played the ENTIRE expansion? No probably not… not a ton to do… But ive been very much enjoying the end game cata and the twilight dungeon system, leveling new guys with RDF and my heirlooms.

Cata was a huge W in my books, very excited for MoP

You know it’s funny I was one of those people unfortunately too I remember hating the talent tree when I was younger because of it killing hybrid specs, and I thought I would again ( which I didn’t like to much) but honestly it wasn’t that bad and your right the choices are much more meaningful my only thing I wish they maybe did allow you to move points around just to see how interesting it would and if they could maybe do what their doing in MoP now which is buff some of the underperforming specs like Fury Warriors and Frost Mages

I am a little sad logging into MoP seeing these talent trees… they feel so bland.

I miss cata already lol
