this thing would be so nice for archeology too.
Can verify. It’s a shame as I really liked using this in OG Cata. What a waste; I took it off my bar. Hopefully they get it working by maybe MoP.

Ok, so this is on retail, but I had this same exact issue, and I figured it out… Autoloot when autoloot is on, the regular loot hotkey is Shift. I had my loot-a-rang bound to [shift-] so it was overriding the autoloot setting whenever I used it
As soon as I removed the regular loot hotkey everything works again, maybe it’ll work for the folks here.
Sadly this isn’t the issue,
I’ve tried just clicking the loot-a-rang, disabling autoloot, and changing the autoloot key and nothing works.
